Job Summary


The Business Data Analyst is responsible for analyzing, reporting, and measuring Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) on the operational services (e.g.

rail, terminal, truck) by mining critical data and driving fact-based recommendations to Intermodal leadership team with the ultimate goal of balancing operational performance with CN's commercial commitment to its customers.

The position within the Customer Service team contributes to CN's Intermodal offering by combining in-depth functional knowledge of rail, truck, terminal operations, and customer commitments with expertise in data analysis and reporting.


Main Responsibilities

Analysis

  • Manage and analyze large sums of data across various CN platforms in order to improve quality and access to critical information network wide
  • Source, evaluate and analyze data from both commercial and operational point of view to provide detailed information for decision makers and stakeholders in both functions
  • Help build customer score cards that provide qualitative and historical view of CN's performance
  • Use multiple internal crossfunctional data sources to consolidate data and make recommendations regarding gaps or areas of improvement in terms of service
  • Support the development and implementation of tools and processes that assist in Customer Service reporting and automation
  • Perform data analysis that provide direction on strategic decisions regarding train, terminal and truck performance
  • Design and develop reporting solutions to drive business decision making
  • Work with endusers to deliver selfserve analytical tools that increase user autonomy and eliminate redundant data mining
  • Map business processes and identify areas for automation and improvement
  • Work with Analysts to drive adoption of modern tools such as Tableau and Power BI
  • Define measures, KPIs and build comprehensive dashboards

Equipment Planning

  • Support daily execution of the Empty Movement Directive plan, delay in the network and empty pipeline report
  • Adjust and communicate across all Marketing and Operations stakeholders
  • Leverage data to identify gaps and propose solutions to resolve short
- and long-term challenges


Stakeholder Engagement

  • Engage stakeholders and participate in meetings and sessions to understand impacts of team's work on each stakeholder's metrics
  • Focus on bridging gaps between Sales, Service and Intermodal Operations
  • Manage and maintain relationships, communication and collaboration with internal customers
  • Analyze, clarify and prioritize Intermodal project requirements for Customer Service

Working Conditions


The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a combination of regular workweek and weekends when necessary.

Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure and manage stress.

The role requires mínimal travel.


Requirements:


Experience
Data Analysis

  • Between 3 to 5 years of data analysis experience
  • Experience working with large volumes of data
  • Experience working with Systems, Applications and Products (SAP), Software Requirements Specifications (SRS) and SAP Business Objects

Education/Certification/Designation

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Business Administration

  • Basic understanding of transportation industry and KPIs
  • Knowledge of Tableau and Power BI
  • Knowledge of various data bases such as Database 2 (Db2), Netezza, and Oracle
  • Understanding of Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) as well as Business to Business (B2B) information flows and process
  • Knowledge of Tran
