    Job Summary
    Together with the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences' Communications & Marketing Team in the Dean's Office, the Digital Media Producer is responsible for planning, preparing and implementing technical and logistical approaches to a variety of digital and emerging media resources including photographs, videos, audio, and other digital media content for high-impact communication and marketing strategies that promote the Faculty locally, nationally, and internationally; raise the profile of the Faculty's research programs; facilitate the recruitment of the best and brightest faculty and graduate and undergraduate students; and contribute to the development of an engaged community of Faculty alumni and supporters.
    Organizational Status
    The Digital Media Producer reports to the Faculty's Communications & Marketing Director, and works closely with Communications & Marketing Team members and the Dean's Office. Liaises regularly with Faculty offices and units, as well as faculty members, staff, students, and alumni. Also liaises with other UBC units as required, including UBC Brand and Marketing and UBC Media Relations.
    Work Performed

    • Leads the planning and implementation of creative and logistical approaches to a variety of digital media projects; design, development and execution of digital media projects; and consultation with project stakeholders on best practices in digital media production and distribution of content in a variety of Faculty communications and marketing channels. This includes securing locations and permissions from project participants.
    • Oversees project conceptualization, scripting, filming, photographing, recording, producing and editing.
    • Researches new technologies and methodologies in the realm of digital media, and monitors trends in the industry that may be of benefit to the Faculty. Plans for the continuous improvement of digital media offerings.
    • Advises and/or oversees the purchasing of audio, visual and post-production equipment and other multimedia physical assets.
    • Manages source files and backups of multimedia artifacts with media storage systems, local hard drives and network storage.
    • Ensures timely, efficient distribution of digital media project exports to appropriate audiences (students, staff, faculty, the public) through digital distribution channels.
    • Advises on and implements the continuous improvement of digital media offerings and evaluates the effectiveness of digital media, recommending actions as a result of a thorough analysis of analytics and audience engagement.
    • Assists with Faculty social media channel monitoring and content updates.
    • Performs other related duties of the position as required.

    Consequence of Error/Judgement

    Judgment, diplomacy and tact are required when communicating with members of the Faculty, UBC, and their stakeholders and partners, as well as when coordinating projects within the Dean's Office and Communications & Marketing Team. All communication is representative of the Faculty and should be conducted in a professional and formal manner. Inappropriate judgment could potentially damage the reputation of the Faculty and UBC, and could possibly have a negative impact on future partnerships and working relationships.

    Supervision Received
    The Digital Media Producer reports to the Communications & Marketing Director and is expected to work independently with minimal supervision, determining priorities as necessary. This requires a high degree of independent decision-making, ability to assess and implement work required, strong organizational skills, and the ability to provide leadership and support.
    Supervision Given
    Supervises the work of student workers, volunteers, and contractors on special projects where needed.
    Minimum Qualifications

    • Two year diploma in media and broadcast production.
    • Minimum of four years of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one's own
    • Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one's own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline.
    • Minimum four years photography and/or videography experience including Adobe Creative Cloud software experience and experience with editing programs such as Lightroom, Premiere Pro, After Effects and DaVinci Resolve.
    • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
    • Experience with social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn.
    • Ability to effectively use word processing and office programs (e.g., Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel).
    • Ability to effectively manage projects, multiple tasks, and priorities.
    • Ability to be thorough, accurate, and have a high level of attention to detail.
    • Ability to develop and maintain cooperative and productive working relationships, work effectively in independent and team environments, and exercise sound judgment.
    • Ability to prioritize and work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines.
    • Ability to listen actively and attentively, and obtain clarification as required.
