The Ministry of Attorney General seeks a

counsel to provide

legal services to the Ministry of Finance and the

Ontario Financing Authority in the area of government finance and other priority areas.

What can I expect to do in this role?: In this role, you will:

  • Provide legal advice with respect to matters related to Ministry legislation in the areas of pension, insurance, credit unions, capital markets and other financial services and in the tax area
  • Provide legal advice and assistance with provincial guarantees, loans, borrowing and investment as well as government finance generally
  • Negotiate and draft contracts, guarantees, loan agreements and debt securities
  • Draft orders in council, regulations and legislation as necessary
  • Provide written and oral legal opinions to the Ministry on other matters related to the Ministry's mandate and interpretation of Ministry legislation.

How do I qualify?:


Mandatory:
Membership in good standing as a lawyer with the Law Society of Ontario


Knowledge & Skills:


  • Demonstrated experience in negotiating and drafting contracts, guarantees, debt securities and loan agreements
  • Experience in drafting orders in council, regulations, and legislation
  • Relevant legal research experience:
  • Excellent oral/written communications skills, including interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent analytical ability in dealing with complex issues.
  • Sound judgment.
  • Excellent computer skills

Other Essential Skills:


  • Proven ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks while working under tight deadlines with changing and competing demands
  • Ability to inspire client confidence and to work effectively as a team member
