The Ministry of Attorney General seeks a

counsel to provide

legal services to the Ministry of Finance and the

Ontario Financing Authority in the area of government finance and other priority areas.

What can I expect to do in this role?: In this role, you will:

Provide legal advice with respect to matters related to Ministry legislation in the areas of pension, insurance, credit unions, capital markets and other financial services and in the tax area
Provide legal advice and assistance with provincial guarantees, loans, borrowing and investment as well as government finance generally
Negotiate and draft contracts, guarantees, loan agreements and debt securities
Draft orders in council, regulations and legislation as necessary
Provide written and oral legal opinions to the Ministry on other matters related to the Ministry's mandate and interpretation of Ministry legislation.

How do I qualify?:

Mandatory:
Membership in good standing as a lawyer with the Law Society of Ontario

Knowledge & Skills:

Demonstrated experience in negotiating and drafting contracts, guarantees, debt securities and loan agreements
Experience in drafting orders in council, regulations, and legislation
Relevant legal research experience:
Excellent oral/written communications skills, including interpersonal communication skills.
Excellent analytical ability in dealing with complex issues.
Sound judgment.
Excellent computer skills

Other Essential Skills:

Proven ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks while working under tight deadlines with changing and competing demands
Ability to inspire client confidence and to work effectively as a team member
