Major Responsibilities:


  • Researches, plans, develops, implements, and evaluates program development strategies and concepts to enhance Toronto Culture properties, events, and policy initiatives and to expand participation in city cultural events and programs.
  • Writes, researches, and develops strategies for program development, audience development, merchandising, customer service as well as print design for promotional and collateral materials.
  • Composes speeches, develops presentations and other correspondence.
  • Develops strategies for and secures sponsor participation for events and programs.
  • Writes and/or coordinates the research, writing, production and distribution of brochures, newsletters, media releases, flyers, key reports, web site content and other products.
  • Monitors and evaluates the impact of program development programs. Recommends changes to strategy, plans and budgets.
  • Monitors project expenditures and ensures cost control.
  • Liaises with museum staff.
  • Develops relationships for cost sharing and collaborates with business, media and community partners on programs.
  • Maintains a network of contacts within the community, media, target audience groups, museum and heritage field, partners and sponsors.
  • Contact suppliers, tenders jobs, coordinates outside consultants, advertising agencies, printers, designers and suppliers ensuring adherence to agreed upon quality.
  • Liaises with other units and divisions.

Key Qualifications:


  • Lived experiences as a member of a First Nation, Métis, Inuit, or Indigenous community.
  • Postsecondary education in a discipline pertinent to the job function (i.e. museum studies, program development and evaluation, event design and management, communications, public relations), or the equivalent in experience, such as considerable experience in public programming and/or special events in Indigenous communities and the arts and cultural sector.
  • Extensive experience in program development and design with proven experience initiating and maintaining relationships with Indigenous partners and other equitydeserving communities.
  • Considerable experience with communications, such as writing publicfacing content for marketing and PR purposes and writing reports for funders.
  • Considerable experience in the creative and performing arts industry, as well as strong network with Indigenous, heritage, historical, cultural and/or community arts organizations.
  • Experience booking artists in a variety of disciplines, coordinating production vendors and suppliers, and consultants.

You must also have:


  • Ability to develop to implement community engagement strategies to support programming design, development, and impact evaluation.
  • Ability to coordinate projects, including creating and monitoring project budgets and schedules.
  • Ability to work sensitively and respectfully with diverse Indigenous partners and right holders and equitydeserving communities.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently, taking ownership of a project as well as being a strong team player in fulfilling the section's and the division's goals.
  • Ability to be flexible and to thrive in a goalsfocussed creative environment with and competing deadlines, multiple tasks, and highperformance expectations.
  • Ability to successfully engage in creative, strategic thinking.
  • Ability to develop and monitor budgets and manage suppliers and consultants.
  • Ability to solve problems and to work effectively individually and as a team member.
  • Excellent work planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work simultaneously on a wide range of tasks with competing/tight deadlines while delivering expected outcomes and consistent creative quality.
  • Excellent oral communication and presentation skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective partnerships with Indigenous partners, other staff, community groups, agencies corporations and businesses in relation to Culture programmes and their promotional requirements.
  • Excellent writing and webbased skills.
  • Ability to foster and maintain positive collaborative working relationships.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks related to supply management, including moderate load carrying and exhibition and event installation preparation as required.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
