Job Description:

The Total Fund Management ("TFM") department is responsible for the successful implementation of the Fund's investment framework.

These activities are focused primarily on the Strategic Portfolio, our long-term vision for the intended investment portfolio composition five or more years into the future.

TFM also works with the active Investment Departments to effectively characterize and allocate to active investment strategies, with the aim of delivering the Strategic Portfolio over time.

TFM also works on the total Fund daily investment cycle, including all the processes, systems, and data needed to structure the investment portfolio in response to the on-going flow of cash and exposures into and out of the Fund.


TFM consists of five groups:

Portfolio Design & Construction; Active Investment Management; Exposure, Leverage & Liquidity Management; Applied Research and Models; Strategy & Operations.


Applied Research and Models Group


The Applied Research and Models ("ARM") group is a 'centre of excellence' in research with a centralized team to ensure we deliver focused and impactful research, develop robust and consistent tools, and operate as efficiently as possible.

We design, maintain, and enhance quantitative models, machines, dashboards and analytical tools that support TFM investment decisions and management of the Fund.


Position Description

Role Specific Accountabilities:


  • Participate in research and analysis on portfolio management, including the development and enhancement of existing models and approaches.
  • Work with the Quantitative Models team to help implement and test approved models.
  • Help prepare and present research reports and methodology recommendation documents to TFM's Research and Investment Committees.
  • Contribute to research culture by providing constructive feedback on other's research projects and seeking out constructive feedback from others on your own work.
  • Collaborate with other teams and contribute to other departmental projects as required.

Qualifications:


  • Degree in Engineering, Computer Science or other quantitative field would be preferred.
  • Programming skills (Python) and experience in data analysis techniques and statistical empirical methods.
  • Experience demonstrating investment research and/or investment engineering with proven impact is an asset
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong critical thinking, analytical and problemsolving skills.
  • Strong intellectual curiosity in finance, economics, and investment management
  • Selfmotivated, organized, flexible and adaptable to changing priorities and new challenges.
  • Exemplify CPP Investments' guiding principles of high performance, integrity, and partnership.
