Interior Health is hiring a

Manager, Protection Services Operations. This position will be managing day-to-day security operations across IH and overseeing a team of regional coordinators and unionized Relational Security Officers.

This position is located in Kelowna.

It is a hybrid work model with some work from home but mandatory on site attendance is required 2-3 days a week.


About the role:

The Manager, Protection Services Operations is accountable to the Director, Protection Services.

The Manager is responsible for the overall delivery, oversight and direction of site-based security operations throughout Interior Health, including the in-house Relational Security program and contract security services.

This includes providing leadership and direction to direct reports, and those they supervise.

This role is responsible for the development and implementation of programs, policies, and standard operating procedures related to safety and security.


The Manager, Protection Services Operations regularly liaises with IH corporate programs, including but not limited to Health Emergency Management, Workplace Health & Safety, and Plant Services, as well as clinical and site leadership.

The Operations Manager also is the primary liaison between Interior Health and Law Enforcement agencies such as RCMP, Sherriff's, BC and Federal Corrections.

The Manager is responsible for the administration, evaluation, and management of contracted security services.


Some key duties:

  • Manages and oversees day to day operations of sitebased security services by coordinating, monitoring, and implementing the effective delivery of contract services and inhouse Relational Security services throughout Interior Health.
  • Ensures the effective management of major security incidents or events, in addition to ensuring senior leadership, communications, and other stakeholders are informed. This position is oncall 24/7 and requires some afterhours commitments.

Education, Training, and Experience

  • A Bachelor's degree in business or health care administration, or a related discipline, and/or specialized training in leadership, Protection Services or criminology, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Working knowledge of appropriate legislation and provincial/national standards on fire safety, building codes, security, and protection of privacy.
  • Seven years managerial experience in protection services and contract management preferably in a health care environment.
  • Membership with IAHSS (International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety) and holds or is able to obtain a Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator (CHPA) or Certified Protection Professional (CPP) designation.
  • Education and training in Investigations, Threat Assessment, and Healthcare Emergency Incident Command System (HEICS).

Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, plan, direct, manage, and implement.
  • Demonstrated ability to make presentations to groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to function effectively in a highly dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of personal computers and computerized systems.
  • A Class 5 BC Driver's License.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
