Position Summary

The City of Regina's Communications & Engagement Department is seeking a motivated individual to join our team for the position of Public Engagement Strategist.

This position is responsible for planning and executing public engagement approaches, strategies, and tactics.

It provides strategic engagement advice, plan support and tools to business areas, as well as supports the integration of best practices in developing corporate engagement policies and processes.

Duties & Responsibilities
Provides advice, recommendations and direction to projects and program areas on engagement activities involving the public, community, stakeholders, and City Council
Responsible for providing engagement advice and direction to City Manager, ELT, Mayor, and Council
Develops, implements, and manages public engagement plans to ensure alignment with corporate and divisional strategic goals.
Manages portfolio work plans and budgets
Proactively leads and facilitates colleagues in communications and across the organization to align and implement engagement strategies, messages, and activities
Provides advice on engagement strategy and implementation with internal clients and external consultants
Prepares, directs and/or collaborates on the production of (engagement-supporting) communications products such as news releases, briefing notes, digital content, ads, and other communications materials as appropriate
Provides expertise in collating, analyzing, and communicating engagement findings
Develops and maintains corporate resources on engagement
Supports skills/professional development of colleagues in engagement Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to express ideas effectively both orally and in writing
Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills
Ability to take leadership role in managing projects and related initiatives
Strong analytical skills including familiarity with data and statistics
Creative thinking, problem solving and decision-making abilities
Proven ability to effectively work independently in a demanding day-to-day environment
Ability to demonstrate leadership and manage conflict
Ability to work with employees at all levels of the organization and elected officials
Political acumen and awareness of community diversity, dynamics, and sensitivities.
Demonstrated commitment to practices of inclusion
Strong facilitation skills
Proven experience developing and executing successful public engagement strategies Education & Experience
Typically, the knowledge, skills and abilities required are obtained through completion of a University Degree in Communications, Journalism, English (or similar program) or a two-year diploma in Public Relations

Minimum of five years' experience in a communications environment with a minimum of two years in a senior communications role or an equivalent combination of education and experience (such as training or certification in public participation/engagement combined with additional years of experience).

Formal experience strategically engaging stakeholders in consultative processes
Experience acting in a leadership role on a project team
Continuing record of professional development
Municipal government experience is an asset but not required
IAP2 Training in the fundamentals of Public Participation or other public engagement training is an asset
