This full-time position is based at
Dieppe Home Hardware at 205 Acadie avenue in Moncton.


The responsibility of a Key Holder Associates is to provide prompt courteous and efficient service to customers, advising them on appropriate merchandise and related items, ticketing and replenishing merchandise, general housekeeping of shelves, loss prevention, merchandising, restocking, and staying current with trends in the industry.


Responsibilities:


  • Advise the designated manager of shortages, damaged goods, backorders etc.
  • Always take appropriate safety precautions when cutting pipe, glass, wire mesh, making keys etc., and try to minimize waste.
  • Answer the phone promptly and take messages according to store policy.
  • Assist customers who need advice, information, or directions.
  • Assist customers with carrying out of large or heavy items.
  • Assist customers with finding all items needed to complete their project.
  • Assist in training new cashiers.
  • Attend store meetings, training sessions, etc. as required.
  • Be familiar with items in stock and yard inventory, including product use and operation.
  • Build special displays and signage for sales, promotions, and other special events.
  • Call when special orders come in.
  • Change prices on merchandise, bins, displays, etc. as necessary.
  • Check incoming merchandise against invoices to spot shortages, damaged goods, backorders, etc.
  • Communicate product knowledge to the customer as appropriate.
  • Determine customer's needs by asking openended questions.
  • Ensure customers are greeted within 30 seconds of entering the store or your department.
  • Ensure customers have had a positive shopping experience; take steps to rectify if they haven't.
  • Follow procedures and maintain standards according to store policy in the following areas: loss prevention, receiving and pricing goods, merchandise handling and presentation, housekeeping, reordering merchandise, restocking shelves and handling cash.
  • Follow proper procedures according to store policy regarding returns and refunds.
  • Greet and verbally communicate with customers, management, and staff both in person and by telephone.
  • Help unload incoming trucks.
  • Keep the store tidy, storage area neat, clean, and orderly. Clean the store and checkout area at the end of the shift.
  • Maintain price information (flyers, instore promotions, etc.) for reference when customer price inquires arise.
  • Maintain the checkout area and merchandise displays.
  • Operate all pointofsale equipment, including the cash register, with sufficient speed and accuracy.
  • Page individuals over the public address system when necessary.
  • Participate in regular cycle counting and assist in taking annual inventory counts.
  • Process special orders for nonstock or out of stock items.
  • Record repeat customer requests for product and followup when product arrives at the store.
  • Remove sales and promotional displays, prices etc. and rearrange stock following promotional events.
  • Reorder merchandise according to stores buying procedures.
  • Tabulate sales at the end of the day and/or end of the shift and remove cash from the register in accordance with store policy.
  • Verify signatures on the back of credit cards and expiry dates.
  • Watch for shoplifting and act according to store policy.
  • Work in a safe manner in accordance with provincial and federal safety legislation, as well as use of good common sense. Report any potential hazards and unsafe behavior to management to have the situation corrected.
  • Work on additional duties and assignments as assigned by management.
  • Work on special projects as assigned by department manager.
  • Additional duties as required.

Skills and Qualifications:


  • High School graduation or equivalent, with previous sales or account
  • Management or supervisory experience
  • Plumbing and Electrical knowledge or experience
  • Experience in the home improvement industry is advantageous
  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Ability to work at a fast pace
  • Able to handle physical work
  • Functional knowledge of merchandising, operations, and retail management
  • Computer experience/technical aptitude
  • Strong analytical and problemsolving skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Team player
  • Attention to detail
  • Bilingualism (French and English) is an asset
