Victoria Women's Transition House (VWTH) is looking for a Full-time (35 hours per week)
Shelter Support Worker to join our growing team.


We are a non-profit charity, providing emergency shelter, counselling and support services for women of all ages, with or without children, fleeing from intimate partner violence and abuse.

We are a vibrant, collaborative community looking for exceptional people to help us grow as we work towards our mission of ending intimate partner violence.


Details of the Position:

The Women's Counsellor assists and supports clients to identify and understand the issues of abuse in their relationship. The counsellor is responsible for the implementation and ongoing service delivery of our programs.

Some of the key responsibilities include:
- screening and orientation of residents
- providing counselling, support and crisis intervention
- facilitation of support group
- advocacy and liaising support


Shift:

Tuesday: 8am to 4pm

Wednesday: 9:30am to 5:30pm

Thursday: 3pm to 11pm

Friday: 9:30am to 5:30pm

Saturday: 8am to 4pm


Qualifications:

A Degree in social work, counseling or a related field and a minimum of one year recent related work in similar environment

  • Welldeveloped interpersonal, counselling, oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organization, time and general management skills
  • Knowledge of group process and facilitation techniques
  • The ability to work effectively with other program staff, therapists, social workers, and other related personnel.


This position supports an essential service working with direct client contact and requires union membership, satisfactory completion of a criminal records search, TB test and Standard First Aid Certificate.


Wage and Benefits:

This is a union position and starts at $27.09 per hour. Excellent extended health and dental, pension plan. Paid sick time and three weeks paid vacation
