    Reporting to the President and CEO, the Vice President (VP) and Chief Operating Officer (COO)- Central Zone is a key member of the Executive Management Committee and Senior Leadership Team with their primary focus to combine strategic and operational accountability to support the vision and values of Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services.

    As a member of the Executive Management Committee, they will provide strategic and operational leadership to envision, enable, and support the ongoing development and delivery of health programs and services that are based on a provincial standard of care that is integrated, efficient, sustainable, high quality, safe, and responsive to the needs of citizens of Newfoundland and Labrador.

    The VP COO will have responsibility for day-to-day operations of facilities and programs within the Central Zone including the following areas: Children and Women's Health; Community Health / Supports; Food Services; Infection Prevention and Control; Facility Maintenance; Medical Devices; The VP COO, in partnership with the Central Zone Medical Director, will closely collaborate with other senior leaders to fulfill the mandate of NLHS.

    A critical role of the VP COO will be working closely with Advisory Committees and local patient advocates to ensure services are responsive and tailored to meet the needs of the population.

    The VP COO - Central Zone will also be responsible for supporting the Regional Health Councils and fostering engagement with local health system and community stakeholders.

    In collaboration with the VP Transformation - Wellbeing, they will drive the success of local Collaborative Team Networks and be responsible for improving the delivery of community-based primary health care.

    The VP COO will identify and champion local opportunities for improvement and provide leadership in program development and system transformation to accomplish strategic goals.

    The VP COO - Central Zone will be accountable for creating and fostering a healthy workplace that promotes effective working relationships that will attract, develop, retain, and motivate healthcare professionals including engagement of staff and physicians.

    They will assume a leadership role in ensuring that programs and departments are successful in attaining defined goals and objectives that are consistent with the strategic operational and fiscal goals of Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services.

    Along with other senior leaders they will share responsibility for culture, which includes a commitment to safety and physiological wellbeing.

    Members of the Executive Management Committee may also be assigned responsibility for programs, departments, or projects within the organization, as determined by the Chief Executive Officer.

    The successful candidate will have considerable experience as a senior administrator, strategist, and policy developer and have exceptional communication and engagement skills.

    The individual must also have demonstrated leadership ability, high ethical standards and integrity, the ability to facilitate change, and a commitment to the health care community.

    The ideal candidate will draw on 7+ years of experience at a senior leadership level that involved planning and delivering a variety of complex, integrated health services across several locations with multiple partners and stakeholders.

    They will demonstrate an excellent understanding of health service delivery with a clear track record of operational performance. Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services values the diversity of the people it hires and serves.
