The Opportunity
The Integrated Planning team at Arup performs work in the following areas:

  • Transportation/traffic engineering/planning.
  • Transit analysis and design.
  • Conceptual transportation design.
  • Transportation policy analysis, including policy analysis.
  • Transportation data analysis and visualization.
  • Focus on transportation equity, carbon neutrality and resiliency.
Responsibilities of this specific role will include, but not be limited to the following:

  • Conducting background research on specific locations, strategies, or policies.
  • Data collection and analysis.
  • Completing and documenting technical analyses.
  • Report writing.
  • Performing analyses using a variety of tools including Excel, PowerBI, GIS, R, FME and (depending on the project) more detailed tools such as MassMotion, SYNCHRO, Vissim, HASTUS, and Remix.
  • Attending team, consultant, and client meetings.
  • Presentations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Transportation or Regional Planning, Civil Engineering, Data Sciences, Engineering, or closely related discipline required.
  • Compelling verbal, written, and visual communication abilities, particularly in the crafting of planning and design narratives, including storytelling.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA) and the challenges and opportunities in the region regards transport and access.
  • Emerging project management skills and ability to provide examples.
  • Understanding of the nexus between data science and analysis, transport planning principles and urban resiliency.
  • Multidisciplinary awareness, creativity, and technical curiosity.

Preferred:


  • A master's degree in a discipline that, ideally, complements the field of study at the bachelor level (i.e., dual training in related but separate disciplines).
  • Internship with transportation consulting firm or major transportation agency.
  • Bilingual in French and English (both written and oral communication).
