    Unit Summary

    The Digital Health Innovation team's aim is to use machine learning, artificial intelligence and novel digital health applications to improve patient care and enhance medical research. Our team has two major areas of strength: Data Science (applied machine learning/artificial intelligence) and Application Development (the creation of new digital health products in partnership with clinicians and researchers).

    Position Summary

    The role of the junior data engineer is to control and oversee the ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) of data from source systems (EHRs, administrative databases, registries, etc) into repositories so that the data can be used for analytics (i.e., reporting, business intelligence, statistical modeling, machine learning, etc). The scope of this role is end-to-end, such that it includes supporting business requirements gathering, all activities from requirements gathering and database analysis, to ETL programing, to ongoing QA and maintenance of data pipelines and target databases. This role will support the senior data engineer and manager on data engineer projects.

    Qualifications

    Education and Experience:
    - Undergraduate degree computer science, engineering or other relevant program
    - 2 years required Business intelligence/data analysis
    - 1 year preferred data engineering

    Knowledge and Skills:
    - Extensive knowledge in the design and development of ETL processes required
    - Extensive knowledge of SQL programing required
    - Working Knowledge of best practices in data warehousing required
    - Working knowledge of at least one industry standard tool for each of the following is required:
    o Data modeling tool (Erwin, Data Architect, etc)
    o ETL tool (Data Stage, Oracle Data Integrator, etc)
    o SQL database (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, etc.)
    - Working knowledge designing and running testing scenarios required
    - Strong interpersonal skills required for requirement gathering
    - Familiarity with cloud architecture (AWS, Azure, GCP, etc.) an asset
    - Experience deploying Spark and Hadoop on clusters an asset
