Under the direction of the Collection Services Senior Inspector, the Seasonal Field Service Worker is responsible for the delivery, repair and maintenance of carts for the provision of Solid Waste Services, the maintenance of cart storage areas, assigned vehicles and any assigned yards.

The Field Service Worker must operate and utilize vehicles, machinery, tools and equipment in a proper and safe manner to accomplish the various tasks effectively.


As the _Seasonal Field Service Worker _
you will:

  • Provide daily delivery, retrieval, repair, maintenance and washing of carts as required through customer service requests or as directed by the Senior Inspector.
  • Maintain stock and inventory of Solid Waste Services carts at the warehouse and other storage facilities.
  • Provide routine maintenance of assigned vehicles, shops, garages, yards and warehouses.
  • Provision of services, pertaining to obtaining cart asset management data and creation of and/or response to customer service requests.
  • Provide administrative support relating to cart asset management and the Collection Management System (CMS).
  • Communicate with cart customers to ensure the complete and timely provision of services, as well as any issues relating to cart collection.
  • Assist with investigations and processing of cart damage claims against the contractor or any other issues regarding carts that requires investigation.
  • Provide education to internal and external customers relating to the Solid Waste programs and cart collection.
  • Provide training for employees by procedural example and demonstration.
  • Demonstrated ability to safely perform duties of an Equipment Operator 3 if necessary, in all weather conditions.
  • Perform other related duties consistent with the classification as required or assigned.

Your education and qualifications include:


  • Grade 10 or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer using Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, KANA, the Solid Waste Collections Management System (CMS) and other software programs as required.
  • Must be able to utilize computer data systems to input and obtain required data.
  • Demonstrated ability to collect cart data information using hand held RFID scanners and related service software.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a minimum of supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization, external contacts such as contractors, other government services, elected officials and the public, in accordance with the Respectful Workplace Standard.
  • Demonstrated ability in providing exceptional quality customer service.
  • Working knowledge of Solid Waste collection practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate small hand tools.
  • A working knowledge of the Highway Traffic Act.
  • Ability to drive a truck and trailer or cube van.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the occupational hazards, safety precautions, regulations and safe work procedures applicable to cart collection practices carried out in the City of Winnipeg.

Conditions of employment:


  • The successful applicant must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful applicant possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver's Licence.
  • Must be physically capable of performing all of the duties of the position including the ability to lift up to 50 lbs, carry and lift bulky equipment, walking long distances, performing field investigations and working outside for extended periods often under unfavorable weather conditions as required by work assignments.
