Technician - Processing Facilities - Pickering, Canada - GFL Environmental Inc.
Description
This position reports to the Containerized Waste Supervisor. The holder is responsible for analyzing, categorizing and processing incoming/outgoing liquid and solid waste streams.The position is responsible for ensuring documentation associated with the waste received at, processed at and transported from the site complies with the applicable provincial and federal regulations and legislation.
The administrative duties include data entry and the generation of weekly and monthly waste inventoriesKey Responsibilities:
Maintain up to date inventory of onsite waste
Characterization of waste based on analysis
Learn and Comply with all legislation regarding reg.347, TDG and WHIMIS
Sample containers of material
Bulk and lab pack materials
Knowledgeable in the operation of a Vac truck
Operate fork lift
General housekeeping
Load and unload trailers and box trucks
Perform analysis and testing
Basic understanding of potential chemical reactions (compatibility)
Maintain up to date equipment inspections
Perform all other duties as assigned
Morning and afternoon rotational shift work required
Operate propane fork lift w/rotator
Other tasks as assigned
Knowledge, Skills & Competencies:
Post-Secondary education in Chemistry/Chemical Engineering/Technology or Internship in a related field is preferred
Competent computer skills (MS Windows, Office, and Excel)
Strong interpersonal skills
Must be motivated, able to multi-task, and work effectively in a team environment
Must be safety conscious and detail oriented
Strong organizational and communication skills
Ability to follow procedures and work with minimum supervision
Willing to work overtime, alternate shifts and occasional weekends
