    Job Description

    POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Supervisor – Landfill Operations and guidance of the Coordinator – Waste Diversion is responsible for assisting with tasks and duties related to the recycling depot operation at the Landfill Site, including providing customer service, and general site maintenance. Also responsible for co-ordinating the community clean up trailer program.

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Educates landfill customers on proper sorting techniques
  • Provides friendly and courteous customer service
  • Removes non-recycle materials from recycling bins
  • Cleans litter and debris in and around the landfill site
  • Directs vehicles to landfill area, recycling centre, household hazardous waste depot, compost area, and other waste diversion programs. Hands out information brochures.
  • Plan and co-ordinate the community clean up trailer program
  • Inspect vehicles and equipment daily to ensure safe operation
  • Capable of diving vehicles with trailer in tow
  • Must be available to work on Saturday.
  • Performs record keeping duties
  • Assist with performing field audits
  • Performs other such related duties as required
  • QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education/Experience:

  • Must be a secondary school graduate & enrolled in an engineering technology, sustainability or environmental studies related program at a college or university
  • Skills & Abilities:

  • Must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Must possess excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Ontario Class G licence, or equivalent
  • Must meet the definition of a competent driver as defined by the Corporation
  • Proficient in the use of computers and current related software (Word, Excel)
  • CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Must remain a competent driver as defined by the Corporation
  • May be required to provide a successful driver's abstract
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 40lbs (18kg)
  • Must undergo a successful Criminal Record & Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC)
