Reporting to the Program Manager, Water Monitoring and Evaluation, the Manager, Aquatic Sciences is responsible for delivering on aquatic effects monitoring goals and objectives, advancing our understanding of aquatic sciences, and supporting risk management strategies.

You will lead a team of technical professionals in the Water Strategy group to ensure the delivery of aquatic science and monitoring related requirements.

Responsibilities:


  • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
  • Foster a team culture of inclusivity and collaboration through mentorship, empowerment, and engagement
  • Advise on management decisions and regulatory approvals related to aquatic health through sound knowledge of applicable commitments, permits, and associated requirements
  • Participate in Teck's Water Management Committee to identify key aquatic health risks, advise risk mitigation options and strategies, and implement activities to support ongoing mining operations
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with government agencies, Aboriginal groups, and other local communities of interest to support implementation of the Elk Valley Water Quality Plan
  • Develop and maintain guidance documents to support organizational change for the many diverse programs associated with water
  • Ensure annual budgeting and scheduling meet regulatory and other commitments

Qualifications:


  • Engineering or Science degree in an environmentalrelated field
  • Minimum 10 years' experience providing leadership on risks associated with resource management, preferably with water
  • Technical understanding of aquatic sciences and risk evaluation experience related to water quality, quantity, and receptors (aquatic and human health)
  • Proven and outstanding skills leading a team of professionals
  • Knowledge and experience with federal and provincial compliance practices and regulations related to water quality/quantity, water management, and resource development is an asset
