Reporting to the General Manager/HSE Manager, the HSE Coordinator will work closely with all levels of management and workers to ensure the successful implementation of Bird Health, Safety and Environmental Program.

The HSE Coordinator will be a supervisory role, with HSE Advisors as direct reports

This position is located in Ottawa

What you will be working on:

  • Develop/maintain and support an organization which embraces a commitment to health, safety and environmental excellence.
  • Build mutually respectful and constructive relationships with project management teams, clients and frontline workers.
  • Act as a resource on all HSE related matters to provide coaching, mentoring, and advice to employees.
  • Works with management team to develop and maintain Project HSE Plans, Job Hazard Analyses and orientation programs.
  • Acts as a leadership resource for customer proposals and / or inquiries related to HSE.
  • Participates in the evaluation and approval of subcontractor prequalification information related to health and safety.
  • Ensures that incident investigations are completed in a timely manner and corrective actions are communicated to Senior Management and appropriate stakeholders
  • Provide recommendations for implementation of corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Provides input relative to the organization's Health, Safety and Environmental goals and establishment of a strong safety culture.
  • Provides leadership, coaching and direction to site teams to ensure the achievement of the HSE KPI's as identified within the HSE Program;
  • Works collaboratively with Bird stakeholders to ensure HSE standards are communicated, implemented and measured;
  • Audits the Bird Health, Safety and Environmental Management System to ensure the overall integrity of the system is maintained;
  • Assists or leads the delivery of safety program training to employees.
  • Participates in the recruitment, onboarding and performance management of HSE Advisors on project sites.
  • Participates in client meetings as required.
  • Other duties as requested by management.

What we are looking for:

  • National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) designation at minimum
  • CRSP or other professional designation preferred
  • Postsecondary education in HSE field an asset.
  • Minimum of 5 years HSE experience
  • Certified Health and Safety Auditor with Energy Safety Canada an asset
  • Valid Drivers License and Clean Driver's Abstract
  • CSTS2020 or SCOT.
  • End-User Fall Protection, Confined Space Entry & Monitor, Standard First Aid preferred
  • Ability to forge, grow and maintain positive relationships with multiple groups
  • Ability to remain objective and maintain a factual perspective when dealing with questions and inquiries
  • Sense of urgency and able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and meet the time demands of unpredictable activities; capable of handling pressure and challenges in a dynamic business environment
