Exciting opportunity to become a Consultant on the North and East Team within the Health Capital Investment Branch where you will bring your effective communication and organization skills to support a dynamic team that manages a portfolio of health capital proposals and projects, such and Hospitals and Community Projects.

The Ministry

Ministry of Health is responsible for administering the health care system and providing services to the Ontario public through such programs as health insurance, drug benefits, assistive devices, care for the mentally ill, long-term care, home care services, community and public health, health promotion and disease prevention.

It also regulates hospitals, operates psychiatric hospitals and medical laboratories; and coordinates emergency health services.


The Branch

Health Capital Investment Branch facilitates strategic investment decisions which link health system needs with health capital investments; Develops and communicates leading -edge health capital policies and standards to stakeholders; Manages decision-making process for redevelopment of facilities and new health services to the public through project design, project completion and the ongoing operation of services; Ensures capital programs are implemented in accordance with mandated legislation and health investment capital strategies, policies and standards; Develops and implements risk management strategies for the lifecycle of projects.

What can I expect to do in this role?: In this role, you will:

  • Provide support in the review, analysis and coordination of the ministry's decision making and approval processes for health capital redevelopment project submissions
  • Respond to information requests, identify issues, and participate in developing strategies to resolve complex issues and mitigate risks
  • Participate in providing program findings/reports/analysis on HCIB initiatives
  • Consult with health service providers and stakeholders on capital project submissions
  • Participate in cross functional teams and joint stakeholder discussions

How do I qualify?:


Technical Knowledge:

You have:

  • Knowledge of health capital project development and implementation requirements and processes
  • Knowledge of the healthcare system and service delivery models, governance and funding mechanisms

Project Management Skills:

You have:

  • Knowledge of project management principles and methods to participate in planning and implementing branch initiatives to include developing the project charter and infrastructure, and monitor progress
  • Ability to balance a demanding workload to provide support services for multiple concurrent projects/initiatives while meeting project task deadlines

Stakeholder Management and Communication Skills:

You have:

  • Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders, and gain support on health capital program initiatives
  • Experience with preparing project proposals, business cases, reports, briefing notes and correspondence
  • Presentation skills to provide program findings, reports, analyses to senior staff and management

Research, Analytical and Problem Solving Skills: You can:

  • Review and assess capital infrastructure submissions, and assist in the identification of barriers to project progress and completion
  • Conduct research and analysis on complex issues, and develop options and recommendations
