PURPOSE & SUMMARY
Sumas First Nation is seeking a qualified individual to take on the role of Accounting Administrator.

Working in our Finance Department, The Accounting Administrator provides accounting support to Sumas First Nation and its related entities with the responsibility of following the various components of the accounting cycle and ensuring that finance related administration processes are completed accurately and in a timely manner.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Complete Bank, General Ledger and investment Reconciliations and code according to SFN policy and procedure.
  • Maintain General Ledgers for investment purposes.
  • Prepare organization journal entries and process journal entries once approved.
  • File GST returns specific to public sector.
  • Prepare AP and AR invoices for Sumas First Nation and its related entities as required.
  • Review AR with SFN department managers.
  • Monitor and review daily organization banking activities and prepare bank reconciliations.
  • Participate with yearend and annual budget process.
  • Maintain accounting software and monitor for updates.
  • Acquire cross training for various roles within the Finance Department to provide coverage when required.
  • Update and prepare rent tracking documents to support the SFN Housing department task of rent collection.
  • Assists in the development and revision of Finance Policy and Finance Procedures to ensure accuracy, completeness, and relevance for Sumas First Nation and its related entities.
  • Works in close cooperation with the Finance Department to ensure that accounting processes are defined, consistent and completed according to GAAP.
  • Prepares for the annual audit preparation process including detailed working papers.
  • Ensures the security and confidentiality of financial data including user access.
  • Prepares accurate and complete quarterly financial statements and reports from accounting data as needed.
  • Ensures that reporting requirements for federal and provincial programs are met.
  • Provides other departments with the information and training required to achieve full compliance with Financial Policy and Procedure.
  • Provides accounting software training to staff as required.
  • Other accounting and administrative duties as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Acquisition of a degree in Finance, Accounting, bookkeeping or equivalent experience plus education.
  • Acquisition of a CPA designation is considered an asset.
  • Minimum three (3) years' work experience as an Accountant.
  • Adept experience in a broad range of financial processes including AP, AR, financial reconciliations and the other components that make up the accounting cycle.
  • Experience using Sage 300.
  • Experience in working with First Nations communities and/or organizations an asset.
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Working knowledge of office procedures, records management, and document processing.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with peers, managers, direct reports, community members, contractors, field staff and suppliers.
  • First Nations heritage is considered an asset.
  • Advanced knowledge and expertise about Microsoft Excel, Word, Zoom, Go-To Meetings.
  • Appreciation of First Nations culture, traditions, procedures, and protocols.

Job Types:

Salary:
$45,000.00-$55,000.00 per year
