How You Will Contribute:


Reporting to the Senior Manager, Lab Engineering, as a Lab Support Technician, you will provide lab support to the Ciena India team working various night shifts ranging from 10 p.m.

to 6 a.m., 12 a.m. to 8 p.m. and/or 2 a.m.

to 10 a.m., affording first level support to offshore customers (primarily the Product Verification and Software Design teams) within the Ciena labs.

Your hours of work and holidays will follow the standard India work week and statutory holiday calendar observed in that country.


  • You will answer the Lab Support line, addressing in lab support requests and basic trouble shooting of lab equipment including Infrastructure and equipment under design or test.
  • You will provide support for all issues originating from the lab user community, including but not limited to:
  • Reconfiguring of Ciena Optical systems based on detailed information and/or drawings provided by system owners or project primes
  • Investigation and resolution of network infrastructure including ethernet connectivity and terminal server/serial port access on all lab equipment
  • Investigation and resolution of basic computing issues, test equipment and signal source issues.
  • Installation of software loads SW on Ciena equipment
  • Troubleshooting and repair of failed circuit packs
  • Provide guidance to the lab user community on lab processes
  • Locate equipment within the lab, including installation, removal, relocation, inventory and equipment maintenance.
  • Run, connect, clean, troubleshoot optical fibers
  • Maintenance of accurate records of specific details of all support requests.

The Must Haves:


  • Minimum College Diploma as a Technician coupled with proven experience in R&D lab management and support organizations.
  • Extensive knowledge of R&D lab environments
  • Strong working knowledge of Ciena Optical Products
  • Working knowledge of corporate tools such as JIRA and GEMS
  • Ability to work core India hours, 11pm7am EST., and other shifts as required, following Ciena India work schedule, and vacation times.
