Supportive Housing, Shanoa's Place - Team Lead

Full-time 9:00 am - 5:00 pm


Youth Empowerment and Support Services (YESS) is currently seeking a qualified permanent full-time Team Lead, to provide support for Shanoa's Place, part of the supportive housing shelter program and create a safe environment for youth.

What We Do

YESS is a not-for-profit agency working with youth facing difficult realities. We provide shelter, residential and day programming to youth who access our services.

Based in Edmonton, YESS provides immediate and low-barrier 24/7 shelter, a drop-in resource centre, temporary supportive housing, temporary independent cohort housing, and individualized wrap-around supports for young people aged 15-21.


We work collaboratively within a network of care focused on the prevention of youth homelessness by providing youth with the necessary supports to stabilize their housing, improve their wellbeing, build life skills, connect with community, and avoid re-entry into homelessness.

What You Will Do

We are currently seeking a qualified individual to provide leadership at Shanoa's Place.

Shanoa's Place is one of two residence homes that provide the stability and support of a longer-term placement than our shelter.

Our two residences provide a homelike environment while youth work on their goals.


The shift schedule is:


Monday to Friday 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

West End of Edmonton


Responsibilities include:

  • Provide guidance, training, and support for Shanoa's Place staff, students, and volunteers
  • Support Shanoa's Place staff in their growth and development
  • Provide supervision for practicum students
  • Work alongside the Shanoa's Place Supervisor for program growth and development
  • Utilize a harmreduction and strengthbased perspective to develop new and strengthen existing case plans
  • Review youth intakes to complete file reviews with the team
  • Conduct intake tours and explain programs and expectations
  • Manage crisis situations when client safety and security is threatened
  • Implement the Agency's emergency procedures in the case of an emergency
  • Ensure basic cleanliness and neatness of workspace, building and youth spaces
  • Respond to parents/guardians and /or professionals who request support or additional information
  • Complete accurate and thorough documentation in a timely manner
  • Participate in regular employee performance discussions and annual performance appraisals
  • Identify new personal development opportunities and maintain an involvement in ongoing professional development
  • Participate in mandatory staff training, team meetings, staff meetings and annual staff Retreat


Additionally, you will provide a professional level of service to donors, promote the agency in a positive manner to the outside community and share information, communicate, and collaborate with other YESS staff.


You will be qualified to act as a leader for the Shanoa's Place team in their growth and development, alongside the Shanoa's Place supervisor.

The Team lead will support a team in providing the highest quality of care for youth who access shelter services.

What You Bring

  • A certificate, diploma or degree in Child and Youth Care or other related Human Services is mandatory
  • CYCAA Child and Youth care certification or other related certification will be considered an asset
  • A minimum of two years' experience in the human services field (working with youth facing difficult realities) with at least one year as a team lead or similar role
  • Knowledge of the values, beliefs, and practices of Aboriginal and other cultural and diverse groups
  • Experience working in shelters or dropin centers will be considered an asset
Prerequisites

  • Training in first aid, and/or nonviolent crisis intervention
  • Training in suicide intervention and harm reduction
  • Clear police clearance (CRIM) and a Child and Youth Intervention (CYIM) checks, both obtained within the last six months
  • Valid driver's license and driver's abstract
  • Basic computer skills
