Job Summary:

The UFV Library is a hub at the university for students, faculty, and staff.


The Reference Team Leader and Data Librarian will also be the primary contact for the provision of data services to faculty and student researchers and will take a leadership role in the promotion and delivery of the Data Liberation Initiative (DLI) and Research Data Management (RDM).


Duties and responsibilities include:

Manage Reference Services and prepare the Reference and AskAway Schedules.

Develop library-wide training for reference services.

Train and supervise the On-Call Librarians.


Perform Liaison duties by creating and maintaining relationships with assigned discipline areas, supporting the faculty's collection development and scholarly resource development, and preparing Library statement and collection analysis reports in support of new courses and programs.


Maintain expertise in electronic information resources and technologies and keep current with changing professional expectations, services requirements, and developments in academic libraries.

Actively engage with faculty, students, and community to promote and market library programs, services, and resources.

Contribute to the collaborative delivery of library services, teaching and participating in Library instruction, committee service, and collaborative projects.


Work to integrate equity, diversity, inclusion, Indigenous knowledge as other ways of knowing into public services, instruction, collection development, and overall professional practice.


Participate in and support initiatives for data resources, scholarly communications, open access, copyright, web archiving, research impact, and knowledge synthesis.


Qualifications:

Master of Library and Information Studies (or equivalent) from an ALA-accredited school.

Academic or professional library background is required with a minimum of 2 years experience.

Experience with implementing and training staff with new reference services and technologies.

Supervisory experience.

Experience delivering library instruction via multiple communication channels.

Understanding of the research data management lifecycle.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Strong information technology and digital literacy skills.

Strong interpersonal skills and time management skills and the ability to work creatively and effectively as a team member.

A high-level of willingness and flexibility towards service commitments and a variety of assignments.

Ability to prepare professional reports and to deliver presentations.

Ability to recognize, respect, and work effectively with individuals and groups with diverse perspectives and backgrounds is required. Demonstrated knowledge of issues related to equity, diversity, inclusivity, Indigenization, decolonization, and accessibility.


Ability to develop and maintain cooperative and productive working relationships and work collegially in a diverse, proactive, and team-oriented workplace culture.

Ability to recognize and appreciate the contributions of colleagues.

Experience with outreach, promotion, and marketing of library service and resources would be considered an asset.

An academic background or a good understanding of digital scholarship would be considered an asset.

Ability to advise on data management and retention, and research impact would be considered an asset.


Working knowledge of client-side web technologies such as HTML, Javascript and CSS and/or server-side programming languages such as PHP and Python would be considered an asset.
