    Overview

    Hexagon's Autonomy & Positioning division is looking for a FPGA Engineer to join our Applied Research team. Reporting to the Resilient GNSS lead, you will be a valuable member of our multi-disciplinary team of tracking, signal processing and positioning experts. Your creativity will make a big impact on our global customers as you optimize the full processing chain, from signal in space to computed position for current and next generation Position, Navigation and Timing (PNT) systems.

    The Location: Hexagon has locations around the world. This position is based in Calgary, AB.

    Responsibilities

    As a FPGA Engineer , resposibilities include:

  • You will undertake research projects as directed, and also provide suggestions for pertinent areas of investigation based on your expertise.
  • The primary area of work is new and innovative research projects for generation PNT in various industries such as defense, automotive, aerospace, and agriculture.
  • The work involves taking requirements (or aspirations) and translating these to workable, low level FPGA implementations whilst being familiar of its place in the overall architecture of the full PNT system
  • Contributing and working with a multidisciplinary team and collaborating with team members with different backgrounds such as mechanical, software and production engineers. The candidate must be effective in collaborating with them.
  • Conduct theoretical analysis/derivations, implement the new ideas in the appropriate platform, devise and complete appropriate tests to prove performance, and document the process and the results.
  • Present your progress to management and peers.
  • Collaborate with other subject matter experts in the applied research team to direct innovation in resilient and next generation PNT solutions.
  • Anticipate patterns, looking beyond the immediate task and generating new solutions to complex PNT problems.
  • Qualifications

  • BSc in Electrical Engineering or a related area
  • Minimum 5 years' industry experience in FPGA design and be able to demonstrate a sound understanding of the principals involved.
  • Awareness of the interaction with other design disciplines is expected (layout, EMC, digital design etc).
  • Hexagon typically uses VHDL for FPGA design on the full range of families (Actel, Xilinx, Lattice, Altera). Familiarity with other technologies is also of benefit, including: SoC, DSP and microprocessors, and power supply design.
  • Experience with C/C++ development
  • Candidates legally able to work in Canada are preferred but international candidates will be considered.
