Testing Research Associate Leamington Ontario \r

The Testing Research Associate will ensure execution of experimental protocols, proper agronomic practices and crop management techniques, and high throughput data collection to enable advancements of vegetable pipelines in high tech glasshouses.

This is an exciting opportunity for a talented and passionate individual to join a multidisciplinary team of vegetable breeders, horticultural scientists, data scientists, and engineers who work on creative solutions to complex business problems using advanced field and greenhouse operations, equipment, analytics, and cutting-edge automation techniques.

This is a home-base role with local travel to multiple greenhouses in the Leamington, Ontario area. \r
\r

What you will do:
\r

\tResponsible for planning and executing experimental protocols and performance trials in protected culture environments for tomatoes in high tech glasshouses \tOperates research equipment, taking notes, entering data management with internal IT systems, and complying with seed stewardship standards \tDevelops, executes and continuously improves a strategic testing plans in alignment with business objectives and to deliver results within the crops \tExecute protocols and trials to generate quality data enabling breeding partners to advance new products based on performance of products and market needs \tCaptures data in Windows and iOS operating systems (desktop computing, iPhones, iPads) and conduct data quality check and assurance to enable timely advancement of vegetable products \tLeverage metrics applications and quality control processes to realize accuracy, efficiency and expanded improvements to protocols \tManages relationships with growers and third-party cooperators to ensure timely completion and integrity of data collected \tCreates and uses tools from collected and analyzed data to develop the performance story and support the transfer of product and agronomic knowledge \tUses overall understanding of market potential, competition, key trends, research and emerging market forces to become an industry expert and develop strategies and plans that effectively grow market share \tExplore new technologies to increase capacity, speed up current processes, and deploy novel technologies in data collection and crop management \tPerform tasks to ensure compliance with Bayer policies and quality standard, including safeguarding of equipment daily use logs, calibration and maintenance \tAbility to work extended hours during peak seasons (including non-traditional day-time hours with the potential of overnight travel) \r

Who you are:
\r

\tEducation:
BSc.

in Horticulture, Agronomy or related field with 5 years of experience preferably in a high tech glasshouse environment \tKnowledge and experience with agricultural equipment and vegetable crops production practices and history of leveraging that knowledge in a research environment \tDemonstrated abilities to develop project plans, analyze and interpret data \tAbility to perform successfully in a fast-paced, dynamic, team-based environment.

Manages multiple projects and priorities \tAbility to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to effectively achieve business results \tCapacity to communicate and work effectively with all management levels in a multi-cultural organization \tBe able to work extended hours during peak operational seasons \tExperience in tomato, cucumber and/or peppers would be an asset \tA valid Ontario driver's license \r
