    As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.

  • Required Qualifications:

    Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.

    Additional Required Qualifications:

    Medical Laboratory Assistant certificate or Medical Laboratory Technologist diploma from an educational institute within Canada satisfactory to APL. Competency in phlebotomy. Inpatient phlebotomy experience in an organization of significant size, complexity, and diversity within the last year. Proficiency in data entry. LIS experience Epic (Hyperspace/Rover) within the last year. Physical ability to perform the duties of the position. Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail. Ability to maintain strictest standards of patient privacy and confidentiality. Able to be fitted to all required PPE (respiratory masks, gloves, gowns).

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Experience in neonatal skin puncture. Courses or certificates in personal leadership development. Courses or training in process improvement or change management. Demonstrates initiative, analytical thinking and problem-solving skills. Experience interpreting workflow visuals and ability to respond appropriately to meet turnaround times. Demonstrated ability to lead self through change. National certification with CSMLS. Intermediate competency in Microsoft Office.
