Duties and Responsibilities

  • Reviews menus and production sheets before preparing meals, prepares and serves them properly and attractively.
  • Preparation of meals according to the posted menu ensuring that all standards are met.
  • Makes menu substitutions as necessary and records these in designated place
  • Ensures use of proper food handling techniques and ensure all Public Health requirements are met
  • Overseeing and assisting with the serving of meals and snacks to residents ensuring resident food preferences are respected.
  • Ensure that all dietary functions are performed in a clean, sanitary manner.
  • Inspect for food supplies and determine what quantities of food should be reordered, communicating to the Head Cook.
  • Assist the Head Cook in control of food costs, waste, and ordering.
  • Assists in receiving and storing incoming food and supplies.
  • Monitors quality of food supplies received
  • Maintain and ensure all kitchen equipment is in good working order and reports to the Head Cook of any equipment that require repair.
  • Assist in the orientation and training of new dietary staff.
  • Supervises and directs dietary aides to ensure all duties and responsibilities are fulfilled

Additional Duties

  • Handle resident complaints within scope of the role
  • Participate in the home's mandatory training program, quality improvement initiatives and any staff development

Qualifications:


  • Chef/Cook Certification from a recognized community college, preferably Red Seal
  • Experience in a Long-Term Care Home/Retirement Home or with seniors preferred
  • Police background clearance for vulnerable persons sector (current, within 6 months, and original documents.
  • Proof of full immunization against COVID19

Skills:


  • Cooperative team player
  • Leadership skills the ability to oversee the dietary staff
  • Understanding and empathy for the needs of seniors

Physical Requirements

  • Should be able to lift a maximum of 40lbs
  • Should also be able to tolerate standing for long periods at a time.

Job Type:
Part-time


Schedule:

  • 12 hour shift

COVID-19 considerations:

  • All Team Members are prescreened prior to start of all shifts
  • All Team Members regularly perfrom Rapid Antigen Tests as part of the screening
process

  • All Team Members must wear a surgical mask at all times when working

Experience:

- dietary aide: 1 year (preferred)
