Landfill Operations Limited (CRALOL) operates the Green Lane landfill under contract for the City of Toronto (City) with responsibility for all aspects of the landfill operations, Site maintenance, construction, and development of the landfill.

Since April 2007, CRALOL has managed the operations at the Site including acceptance of waste, scale house, landfilling, compaction and cover operations, storm water control, leachate management, landfill gas (LFG) management system, leachate treatment plant, odour control program, and buildings/facilities on-Site.

Additionally CRALOL also manages the construction of the landfill site infrastructure including LFG collection field expansions and excavation and installation of future landfill stages.

Currently, the CRALOL contract with the City extends to December 2029.

CRA LOL is looking for a Wastewater and Gas Technician to join our team for our flagship contract operating the Green Lane Landfill in St.

Thomas, Ontario. You will be working with our team members at the landfill.

Responsibilities:


  • Operate and maintain the leachate treatment plant and the LFG collection and flaring system at the landfill
  • Supporting the development, implementation, and supervising safety programs and initiatives and participate in training and professional development programs offered
  • Collecting wastewater samples for chemical and bacteriological analysis and conducting chemical analysis tests in the onSite laboratory
  • Attending the leachate treatment plant, lift stations and LFG flare systems on emergency 24/7/365 callouts when required

  • Carrying out equipment servicing and preventative maintenance work as outlined in work schedules, reporting issues, concerns, and major repair work to the supervisor
  • Monitoring SCADA and making process changes as required
  • Conduct LFG collection field monitoring using portable instrumentation on a regular basis to optimize collection efficiency, balance individual gas extraction wells, and perform routine maintenance and minor repairs as required.
  • Maintain a field log, noting pertinent information related to field operations and support management in the analysis of the field data collected to tune the gas collection system for optimum longterm emissions control and coordinate with the supervisor repairs, modifications, and upgrades as necessary to maintain and operate LFG collection system
  • Calibrate and maintain test equipment
  • Directing suppliers and subcontractors in the maintenance, repairs, and construction activities of these facilities
  • Interface with regulatory agencies, inspectors and visitors as required or directed
  • Utilize PC based landfill gas management and word processing software to prepare reports
Skills, Competencies, and Qualifications

  • Environmental Technology Diploma, Science Degree or related discipline
  • Selfstarter, flexible, team player, willing and able to work on a wide variety of tasks
  • Positive attitude and strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
