The Abby Community School Society is looking for driven individuals to join their instructing team. We are looking for program instructors who will lead our Indigenous Arts Afterschool Program for children (ages 5-12).

What is a community school?


It is a designated school facility that is open beyond the traditional school schedule to offer a variety of community learning and recreational opportunities to people of all ages.

Community schools are multi-service facilities working in partnership with other community agencies, organizations and individuals to improve the quality of life in the community.

Our Community school will be running classes out of schools in Abbotsford and are such as but not limited to, Abbotsford Senior Secondary School, Abbotsford Middle School, Eugene Reimer Middle School, Chief Dan George Middle School, Dormick Park Elementary, Alexander Elementary School, Matsqui Elementary, Ross Elementary, Godson Elementary, Prince Charles Elementary, Clearbrook Elementary, Ten-Broeck Elementary, Terry Fox Elementary, Centennial Park Elementary, Harry Sayers Elementary, Dave Kandal Elementary and Auguston Elementary, and Aberdeen Elementary.

What is our goal?

To enrich the lives of the people in our community by offering a wide range of cultural, recreational, and educational programs and opportunities.

Applicants will be required to complete a Criminal Record Check. Current First Aid is an asset. Compensation is based on experience and programs that are being led. Compensation for successful applicants start at $18.00 per hour for this program.


Responsibilities:


  • Attend all scheduled shifts (afternoon)
  • Be in good communication with the Program Coordinator on program & student succession
  • Fill out incident reports, speak with parents, and Program Coordinator when necessary
  • Follow ACSS' Protocols & Procedures
  • Treat ACSS Staff, Parents, Students, & School Administration with respect at all times
  • Work well with others & has a team minded mentality
  • Create a safe, welcoming, and encouraging learning environment for students
  • Be adaptable & able to troubleshoot
  • Run educational & recreational activities, games, & crafts
  • Be energetic & create positive rapport with ACSS Staff, Students & Parents
  • Develop and implement engaging and educational programs for participants
  • Plan and facilitate activities, lessons, and crafts
  • Provide guidance and support to participants during program sessions
  • Monitor and evaluate participant progress and provide feedback
  • Collaborate with paired Instructor to ensure program objectives are met
  • Maintain program binder documents and student records

Qualifications:


  • Previous experience working with diverse populations, such as children, youth or adults
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to create a positive and inclusive learning environment
  • Knowledge of program development principles and best practices
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills

Job Type:
Part-time


Salary:
$18.00-$19.00 per hour

  • Secondary School (preferred)

Experience:

- teaching: 1 year (preferred)

Indigenous Art: 1 year (preferred)


Licence/Certification:

  • Food Safety Certification (preferred)
