**Social Worker

  • Child and Family**
    12 Month Term Position


As part of the Social Work Team, the Social Worker - Child and Family is under the management and supervision of the Executive Director of the Winnipeg MFRC and is responsible for developing, coordinating, and implementing the child and family counseling program.

This position will work with individuals, couples, children, and families to assist in overcoming a range of psychological and emotional issues.

This position will provide support to military families in times of crisis, employing a collaborative approach that includes the individual/family's active participation in problem-solving.

The social worker actively networks with community resources, develops and manages programs and services that provide opportunities for families to understand and manage general health and military lifestyle stressors.


Qualifications
Master's Degree in Social Work, Counselling, Psychotherapy, Psychology, or a related field
AND some years of experience providing direct services in social work, counseling or a related field

OR

Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Counselling, Psychotherapy, Psychology, or a related field
AND at minimum two years of experience providing direct services in social work, counseling, or a related field


AND
Good standing with a professional designation registration


AND
Play Therapy/Thera
- play an asset


AND
Marriage and Family Therapy an asset

Knowledge
Of community-based and family support/family resource models of social services delivery

Of crisis assessment and crisis intervention techniques

Professional
Demonstrate a high standard of professional conduct and behavior reflective of the Code of Ethics of professional affiliation.


Create and maintain an official confidential record/file (electronic - CRM) which contains intake assessments, waivers, and ongoing contact information related to individual and community activities and services.


Responsibilities


Conduct evaluations and sessions (short term) for children of military families experiencing the unique challenges of the military lifestyle; separation, relocation, and transitions.

In mood disorders, anxiety and depression, family violence, abuse, special needs, severe behavior disorders, family of origin dysfunction, and blended families.


Conduct sessions and/or short-term support to individuals and families in crisis in areas such as, but not limited to, family violence, critical incidents, suicidal ideation and depression, marital issues, separation, and divorce issues.

Coordinate and provide referral and advocacy for clients requiring specialized and professional services within the community.

Work closely with the Winnipeg Military Family Resource Centre Daycare.

Work in collaboration with the Winnipeg Military Family Resource Centre Social Worker/Family Liaison Officer, providing back-up services during absences/vacations.

Support families in person or through other mediums in one on one, couples, family, or group environments, as required.


Attend and participate in staff and case management meetings held by the Winnipeg Military Family Resource Centre and help professional multidisciplinary teams, as required.

Attend and participate in the Family Violence Team and Helping Professionals Steering Committees.


Act as an advocate on behalf of Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) families coping with the effects of military lifestyle challenges liaising with schools and community supports.

Provide family case management and resource coordination in meeting family needs.

Review program and/or service incident reports and provide direction, referral, and service, as required.

Collaborate in the development of outcome plans and activities.

Identify, assess and address gaps in the provision of family services and benefits.


Actively solicit funding from outside sources that support the mandate of the family counseling program and the needs of our clients.

Connect with other clinical teams to ensure best practice protocols.
