Description

The Respite Program supports adults and children with intellectual disabilities and their families offering different program options to meet individual need.

We offer overnight respite through our In-Centre program which provides 24-hour staff support and care; day programming for adults interested in building skill and social connections; recreation/leisure options including Activity Night for adults to enjoy some fun and fellowship with peers and some Saturday/Camp programming specifically designed for youth who have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder.

The Respite Program is currently hiring a Temporary Full Time Respite Shift Coordinator. This is a temporary fulltime
1-year contract based on 40 hours per week.

Flexibility in scheduling is required to meet program requirements; schedule including days, afternoons, weekends, and overnights and will include a 1⁄2 hour paid meal break.


This position is best suited for someone that can fulfill our pledge to encourage participant independence, advocate for community inclusion, foster friendships and provide positive role models.

Respite Shift Coordinator provide care for children, youth and adults with a diagnosed Intellectual disability. Services include Centre-Based Respite, Residential Care, Summer Programs and Day Programs.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


Client Services:


  • Responsible to ensure that needs of program participants are met i.e. physically, emotionally, medically, and behaviorally.
  • Responsible for dispensing medication and ensuring that all medication charting is completed in compliance with established agency policies.
  • Required to complete safety checks, logbook recordings, intake and discharge functions.
  • Plan menu according to Canada's Food Guide; maintain inventory of grocery/ household items and generate shopping list.
  • Plan and facilitate a variety of recreation and leisure activities and community outings (appropriate to age, skill level and interests) which provide opportunities to promote inclusion in the community.
  • Advocate on behalf of the program participants to promote health and wellbeing.
  • Ensure that participants follow through on personal care routines and routines of daily living.
  • Provide intervention for any behavioural challenges.
  • Liaise with parents, caregivers, community partners as required.
  • Responsible for transportation of participants in the program vehicles.
  • Prepare and distribute meals, snacks/nourishments as outlined on the approved menu.
  • Complete house maintenance duties as outlined under 'shift responsibilities' as well as the organization and maintenance of property and program supplies.

Communication/Administration:


  • Assist the Respite Program Supervisor in the development of protocols, profiles and procedures specific to individual participants; maintenance and updating of participant records and other program documentation.
  • Ensure proper recording in the daily log, shift change book, anecdotal recordings, incident reports, restraint forms, etc.
  • Report any identified needs to team members, Respite Program Supervisor and/or oncall designate and parent/usual caregiver.
  • Maintenance and updating of participant records and other program documentation.

Human Resources:


  • Provide training and orientation to new staff/volunteers/students.
  • Provide medication administration training as required to Respite Support Staff working in the program.
  • Provide support and direction to parttime and/or casual/relief staff.

Property:


  • Report any property damage, mechanical breakdown of equipment and/or repairs needed in the program to the Program Supervisor and/or Property Manager.

On-call Responsibilities:


  • Provide oncall afterhours support and consultation to Respite staff:
  • Maintain accurate documentation of calls received.
  • Provide assistance to address basic utility concerns, maintenance issues.
  • Notify secondary oncall staff of any serious occurrences.
  • Provide assistance including appropriate notifications in the event of an emergency such as fire, evacuation, death, missing person, major maintenance issues, serious accident and/or injury requiring hospitalization.
  • Provide direct care support only as required.
Perform other position related duties as required.


Working Conditions:


  • This is a temporary fulltime year contract based 40 hours per week.
  • Flexibility in scheduling is required to meet program requirements; schedule including days, afternoons, weekends, and overnights and will include a 1⁄2 hour paid meal break.

  • The Supervisor will set the hours of work and work schedule.
  • Some travel is associated with this position.
  • Oncall Responsibilities weekendsrotational work schedule
- required to remain within the city and approximately 1⁄2 hr. from the facility should it be necessary to go into the facility.
