This is a key role in ensuring Aviva aligns with all regulatory requirements for securing the organizations physical security buildings, assets, business, and personnel.

The role also includes but not limited to security performance monitoring, measured, and reporting of the Aviva Group standards, in a cycle of continuous improvement.


This position will be based out of the Aviva Head Office, located in Markham, Ontario, with up to 30% travel across Aviva businesses.

This role will report into the Senior Corporate Security Manager of Aviva Canada.

What you'll do:

  • Accountability for delivery of security services, security strategies, standards, and governance.
  • The Corporate Security Manager is part of the wider Canadian Corporate Security Leadership team and has a role in supporting and leading the Group Security Standards, Controls, Policies, and assigning findings to the team.
  • Driving improved value, SLAs, and management of possible 3rd party contracts in the security team.
  • You have a keen appreciation of the importance of risk and controls and can effectively conduct control testing and report gaps to management for remediation.
  • Ensuring that annual location security reviews and/or analysis are completed throughout the year while assigning, managing, and governing findings or improvements to different business divisions.
  • Work with Security Service Vendors to complete Preventative Maintenance across the various business locations by reviewing the documented reports and governing the risk levels and outcomes.
  • Proactively find opportunities to improve effectiveness and improvements of risk identification and management of policies and processes to manage the risks in new initiatives.
  • Be involved in the development of the technology road map and implementation of Security tools to support the physical security team's business needs.
  • Proactively find opportunities to refine our processes to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of our function.
  • Ensures compliance with licensing laws, health and safety and other statutory regulations
  • Provide specific focus and expertise to protect Aviva from the risks associated with terrorism (both local and foreign), malicious intrusion.
  • Develops and cultivates strong working relationships with all collaborators; guests; regulatory bodies and team members.
  • Build and maintain documentation (incl. reporting as needed) on control processes and events; includes a regular periodic review and signoff of documentation to keep content accurate and current.
  • Able to be oncall with the Duty Manager rotation for escalations, and business impacts afterhours.

What you'll bring:

  • Proven ability to develop and implement physical security management systems across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Indepth knowledge of threat vectors for a large global financial services organization.
  • Formal qualification in Physical Security Management, or equivalent, or corporate organization with a minimum of 5 years' experience operating at a managerial level.
  • Ability to make decisions and deliver security solutions in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple sophisticated activities simultaneously to short timescales.
  • A strong understanding of risk management principles and practices.
  • Experience engaging with all levels of management and communicating complex technical issues to a range of audiences.
  • Experience handling security incidents in a complex enterprise environment.
  • Experience in managing and conducting complex investigations into physical security breaches.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to get the best out of people.
