Nasittuq provides Operation & Maintenance services for the North Warning System (NWS). The NWS is a joint Canada and United States early-warning radar system with 47 sites located in Northern Canada; a Control Centre and Support Centre located in North Bay, ON and a Contract Management Office located in Ottawa, ON.

Please note:
This role is ideally located in Ottawa, ON, but North Bay, ON will be considered.


Scope:

Nasittuq seeks a Junior Health and Safety Professional to join its NWS Compliance team. Applicants must be enrolled in or successfully completed a Post-Secondary level safety related program.

The position requires initial training based in the program's Ottawa office and will require travel to remote arctic radar sites.


Office responsibilities of this position may include, but are not limited to:

  • Reporting and following up on safety incidents.
  • Researching and responding to safety related questions.
  • Drafting safety policies
  • Aiding in the preparation of pre and postseason plans and reports.
  • Interpretation of Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Track, maintain and report on metrics generated from Health & Safety incidents

Field responsibilities of this position may include, but are not limited to:

  • Investigate Health and Safety Incidents
  • Conduct Health and Safety audits at remote northern locations

Requirements:


  • Individuals must have completed or be in the process of completing a Post-Secondary level program in a safety related field.
  • Two years' experience in a Health and Safety Related field.
  • Travel is required, as and when necessary for the role.

Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:


  • Proven report writing skills and experience
  • Comfortable with working for extended periods in an isolated environment.
  • Knowledge of federal, provincial/territorial safety legislation, codes, and guidelines pertaining to the operations of the NWS sites
  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity with an understanding of work in the Canadian Arctic.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office software
  • Experience using Maximo
  • Hold a valid driver's license, class "G"
