About us:

University Family Housing is comprised of a unique stock of 83 century homes and two 21 story residential towers.

We provide housing to student families, faculty families and long-term residential tenancies, on-site property management services, and educational and recreational programming for our families.


Your opportunity:


The Community Standards Advisor is a new position, which is responsible for overseeing the behavior management of our Student Family Housing Community.

This behaviour management includes both Mental Health support and Conduct Management. The incumbent will support holistic student and family development through Housing & Residence Life's Community Standards and conduct practices.

Reporting to the Assistant Director, University Family Housing, the Community Standards Advisor functions as a part of the Residence Life Management Team, providing guidance and support to the Residence Life Coordinators, in addition to leading the initiatives surrounding non-academic programming which include wellness, and adult and children-focused educational and recreational programming.


Your responsibilities will include:


  • Investigating community standard and housing policy breaches
  • Providing proactive care to prevent physical or emotional injury or harm
  • Interpreting applicable guidelines and protocols to determine policy and appropriate disciplinary actions for breaches of community standards and/or housing policy violations
  • Analyzing processes and recommending changes for more efficient coordination of operations
  • Keeping wellinformed on University programs, policies and procedures, as well as industry best practices and trends, including crisis intervention and emergency protocols
  • Implementing plans and process improvements for program and service activities
  • Planning and implementing workflow for a group, in addition to directing the activities of casual staff and coaching student staff on handling personal and nonpersonal complaints

Essential Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree, or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum five (5) years of relevant residence life/housing experience
  • Minimum three (3) years experience working in a postsecondary residence setting in a similar position
  • Minimum three (3) years experience in counseling, community programming initiatives, and conflict resolution in a residence environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Proven leadership, supervisory and problemsolving skills
  • Demonstrated conflict resolution skills
  • Skilled in working in an unpredictable and often stressful environment both independently and as part of a team of diverse individuals
  • Intermediate computer skills relating to Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)

Assets (Nonessential):


  • Skilled in working with universityaged adults and individuals in crisis
  • Experience working with postsecondary students and knowledge of university and community resources
  • General understanding of the Residential Tenancies Act (RTA)
