Municipal Accessibility Support Coordinator (NS Based, hybrid)

Association of Municipal Administrators, Nova Scotia, (AMANS) is hiring a Municipal Accessibility Support Coordinator. This position assists municipalities and villages to strengthen their capacity to implement and meet commitments in their accessibility plans.

The role is responsible for developing tools, resources, and educational opportunities to support Nova Scotia municipalities and villages to improve accessibility.


Responsibilities include developing and leading the delivery and administration of capacity building initiatives, supporting and advising municipal and village accessibility leads in developing and implementing accessibility projects and plans, and assisting municipalities and villages in navigating new and existing funding initiatives.

To succeed in this job, you will require the ability to:

  • facilitate collaboration and knowledge exchange amongst municipal and village accessibility leads.
- use research and best practices to inform workplans and program efforts;
- educate, collaborate, communicate and engage with stakeholders;
- translate knowledge to stakeholders;
- work with municipal organizations to build on strengths, capacities, resources, and opportunities;
- work independently, take initiative, and work in a team environment;
- use frameworks and models to plan and evaluate initiatives.

In addition to a solid understanding/knowledge of accessibility issues and legislation related to accessibility, you are an excellent communicator, skilled and comfortable delivering presentations and facilitating workshops; developing and updating resource materials and communication tools (ex. program website). Your strong interpersonal and communications skills (both verbal and written) enable you to build and maintain constructive stakeholder relationships. This position requires travel within Nova Scotia.

This is a term position to March 31, 2024 and is a full-time position (40hrs/week; Mon-Fri 8:30-4:30 Atlantic), based mainly in a home office, with shared office and meeting space in downtown Halifax.

Discussions are currently underway for funding possibilities, extending the program beyond that date.


Salary Range:
$62,000- $75,000 AMANS benefits package access that includes a matched retirement savings contribution; an annual wellness grant, shared-cost Health and Dental benefits programs; employer-paid EAP access, annual vacation time, and earned days off available (1/month).
