The opportunity:


The Cleaning Coordinator is responsible for maintaining the facility in "as new" condition by ensuring a high standard of cleaning and general maintenance.


In this role, you will:


  • Demonstrate strong support and commitment to the mission and core values of the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka and the YMCA in Canada.
  • Demonstrate strong support and commitment to serving the membership, facility users and all program participants of the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka.
  • Adherence to all provincial and federal legislation relevant to job description.
  • Maintain facility cleaning according to YMCA SAM Standards, YMCA cleaning practices and protocols, industry best practices and local operating standards and schedules. Demonstrate a strong working knowledge of equipment, products, procedures and standards involved in keeping the facility clean.
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of mechanical and operating systems. Address all issues as identified in a timely manner to ensure uninterrupted service.
  • Provide value & competency based leadership to all cleaning staff, in collaboration with supervisor.
  • Communicate service issues and deficiencies to the appropriate staff in a timely manner. Communicate all serious system malfunctions that could adversely affect operations to supervisor and/or General Manager.
  • Observe and maintain all Health and Safety requirements, including but not limited to WHMIS, Employee Health and Safety, etc. Ensure understanding of same by all staff.
  • Ensure safety and security of YMCA staff and members proactively and while on duty. Respond to all member issues or concerns in a respectful and courteous manner.

You bring:


  • Grade 12 and some postsecondary education
  • 3 years of facility cleaning experience
  • Strong knowledge of cleaning procedures, standards & practices
  • Health & Safety Certification Part one and two
  • WHMIS Certification
  • Certified Pool Operators Certificate (or completed within 6 months of start of employment)
  • Current CPR & First Aid
  • Willingness to participate in mandated training to be completed before or shortly after commencement of work including:
  • AODA Training
  • Health & Safety Awareness Training
  • Bill 168 (Violence & Harassment in the Workplace) Training
  • PCI Compliance
  • WHMIS
  • Child Protection Training
