What you'll do:


  • Working with one of our 21 Customer Service Offices (CSO), this position reports to the Field Supervisor and the CSO Manager, and is responsible for performing crop inspections on farms while working with customers.
  • Perform crop inspections, predation claims, wildlife claims, and third party liability claims on farms.
  • Contact customers to schedule field inspections.
  • Prepare in advance to ensure all required materials are ready for field inspections.
  • Inspect customer property for claims information.
  • Perform fieldwork while dealing with dissatisfied customers or problem situations.
  • Identify crop damage and disease and the causes associated with both.
  • Measure bins and acreages accurately, and record information.
  • Gather data necessary to determine indemnities for programs administered by SCIC.
  • Complete appropriate documentation in regards to customer claim information.
  • Enter claim information into Crop System, ensuring accuracy.
  • Calculate customer claims payments and authorize up to the allowable maximum.
  • Complete reports, forms, field maps and plant count calculations.
  • Promote SCIC programs in a positive light, and provide information and advice to customer inquiries.
  • Perform contract work for a variety of third party organizations regarding field visits and surveys.
  • Provide training and support to other Adjusters.
  • Check phone messages after hours and on weekends when assigned, to determine if it is necessary to do after hour's claims.
  • Provide back up for field supervisors when they are absent.
  • Assist and provide coverage for Customer Service Office (CSO) staff when needed.

Qualifications:


  • To be successful in this position you will need a grade 12 diploma, supplemented with, a minimum four years direct agriculture experience on a farm operation. OR a one year postsecondary certificate specializing in agriculture with two years related experience in the agriculture industry.
  • Working knowledge of Saskatchewan agriculture and modern farming practices/crops, with the ability to identify crop disease, insect damage and other causes of loss.
  • Written communication skills, able to generate claims documentation.
  • Customer focused with the ability to gather information, respond to inquiries and work with customers in a professional manner.
  • Self motivated, exhibiting initiative within both a team environment and independently.
  • Knowledge of and experience with mathematical calculations.
  • Knowledge and experience with computer programs, including but not limited Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and a suitable vehicle to carry out responsibilities.
  • This is a safety sensitive position, with requirements that include but are not limited to working in inclement weather conditions; exposure to scenarios with predators. Good physical condition required, with the ability to walk long distances for field measurements, claims investigation and measuring grain bins.
  • Required to travel throughout the province and work weekends when necessary.
