A Vice-Supervisor for a daycare will assist supervisor to ensure the facility is a safe and fun place for children to learn.

They are tasked with a wide variety of responsibilities, including managing staff, interacting with parents, and marketing and financial duties.

They enjoy working with children and want to provide the students at the daycare center with the best possible experience.


Skill Set


A daycare vice supervisor must be kind, patient and loving, as they spend most of their days working with young children.

They must be a strong leader, with the ability to manage a diverse group of children.

It is important that they are an effective communicator, as they will be interacting with both parents and children daily.

They must be skilled at CPR, first aid and other routine emergency treatments. It is also imperative that they are very organized, reliable, detail-oriented, trustworthy and responsible.


Front Office Responsibilities
The vice supervisor of a day care center has a variety of front office responsibilities, including:

  • Management of all Ministry of Education documents and guidelines
  • Vast and deep knowledge of the Daycare Licensing Manual as well as How Does Learning Happen and the ELECT documents
  • Implementing the _
    Small Steps Early Learning Centre_ Curriculum and ensuring academic advancements are made by all children in the center daily
  • Reviews the classroom boards ensuring that information posted is accurate, updated, current with standards of brand and inclusive of all requirements by Ministry and Public Health
  • Maintains relationships with key stakeholders such as: building management, Public Health, Vendors, Suppliers, and all other thirdparty providers for the center
  • Maintains detailed and current inventory lists of all items in the center and orders more when needed (with approval from Director)
  • Interacting with children on a daily basis and knows their names, details and information in their file (allergies, custody if applicable, background, special requirements, etc.)
  • Tasked with hiring new staff, providing training, and constantly monitoring staff members to ensure they're accurately performing assigned duties and responsibilities (ensuring their CPR/First Aid is updated regularly, professional development plans and Performance reviews are completed
  • Organizing and implementing monthly staff meetings with prayer/devotional and learning objectives (locating and booking community guest speakers), providing support, encouragement and recognizing staff for their work and contribution
  • All scheduling/HR management tasks must be completed by the supervisor
  • In charge of approving and expanding on the planned activities that teachers produce (ensuring they are inclusive, educational, engaging and ageappropriate)
  • Answering inquiries for the centre, booking tours and increasing enrollments
  • Reporting to the Director/Centre owner on a weekly basis or more often if required
  • Organizes all parent events in the centre including Christmas Concerts/parties, Mother's day, Father's day, preschool graduation/family picnic in June and any other special events that the centre wants to celebrate above and beyond
  • Manage all charity drives and special events for the centre
  • Food/Snacks Ordering on a weekly basis

Back Office Responsibilities


The vice supervisor of a daycare is also tasked with several necessary behind-the-scenes duties to keep the daycare center running smoothly.

They must constantly monitor the facility, ensuring that it is a safe and healthy place for children, and adhere to proper Ministry codes.

It's also essential that they make sure all children have proper paperwork on file, including their health information, allergies, details of any medical conditions they suffer from and authorization from the parents stating who is allowed to pick the child up from the facility.

They work to keep enrollment at the daycare center up by responding to parent inquiries, giving tours, hosting open houses, advertising, and any other applicable marketing initiatives.

The supervisor also works with the director/center owner to create a budget for the facility, submit payroll and purchase necessary supplies.


Education


The minimum education required to work as a vice supervisor of a daycare center is an Early Childhood Education Diploma and at least one year of experience managing a center or as an assistant supervisor.


Preferred but not an ASSET

  • Active in the RECE community with close ties to current events (professional development)
  • Bachelor's degree in child studies or Early Childhood Education (or equivalent)
  • Food Handler's Certification
  • WHIMIS Certificate completed
  • Experience with Special Needs
