Description

Reporting to the Director of Shipyard Facilities, the Operations Facilities Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the Vancouver shipyard's facilities, including buildings, equipment, and infrastructure.

This role plays a critical part in ensuring that the shipyard's facilities are safe, efficient, and conducive to productivity.


As the Operations Facilities Manager, you play a pivotal role in ensuring the highest standards of maintenance across the shipyard, encompassing grounds, common areas, buildings, and equipment.

Your leadership of a team of skilled facilities trades, guided by principles of responsiveness, quality workmanship, professionalism, and proactive planning, is essential.


Additionally, you will collaborate with the Equipment Reliability Specialist and the Maintenance Planner on preventative and predictive maintenance programs, facility upgrades, and component replacement.


Note:

Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 50 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.



What you'll do

  • Collaborate strategically with the Production team and the Director of Shipyard Facilities to achieve organizational goals and objectives.
  • Manage and develop systems for monitoring/managing lifecycle of equipment at Vancouver Shipyards to ensure equipment is appropriately maintained or replaced in a timely and costefficient manner.
  • Manage and coordinate the work of multiple subcontractors, consultants and suppliers related to the shipyard facilities upkeeping.
  • Develop and manage the facilities budget, including forecasting and expense tracking.
  • Identify costsaving opportunities and recommend costeffective solutions for facility operations.
  • Assist in the oversight of small capital improvement projects, ensuring they are complete within budget and schedule, and meeting quality workmanship standards.
  • Handle service contract negotiations. and oversee work performed to ensure compliance with all building code requirements.
  • Attain department goals and standards: safety, quality, productivity and costs.
  • Foster a proactive maintenance culture, focusing on the implementation of a preventative maintenance program that is robust and sustainable and use of predictive maintenance techniques.
  • Perform frequent onthejob inspections to ensure safe working habits, safe work areas, quality of workmanship, effectiveness of maintenance and repairs.
  • Prepare work schedules and technician duty assignments as required to support the total maintenance program and the requirements of production.
  • Lead and mentor the Facilities Maintenance team, promoting a positive safety culture through leadership.
  • Routinely inspect facilities to anticipate the need for repairs and maintenance of all company assets.
  • Ensure all operating permits and inspections are valid and up to date.
  • Balances maintenance and equipment needs with production schedules to ensure operational requirements are met.
  • Ensures current documented maintenance procedures are in place for all Shipyard Operational Assets.
  • Collaborate with the Supply Chain Management team to arrange contracts for vendor services as required.
  • Monitor and control expenditures to established budget limits and prepares appropriate proposals for planned and unbudgeted expenditures.
  • Works closely with the other Facilities teams outside the shipyard to ensure all facilities are maintained, clean and in good working order.
  • Advises and consults with Facilities Director on all renovations, repairs and maintenance to the Shipyard facilities.
  • Other duties as required.

What you'll bring

  • Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related technical degree and at least 15 years of combined experience in facilities maintenance and operation of an industrial production facility.
  • 5 + years of managerial experience, with at least 2 are in a production environment, preferably in a unionized environment.
  • FSR Class B certification required, FSR Class A certification preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years relevant experience in a facility maintenance role.
  • Exceptional problemsolving and decisionmaking capabilities.
  • Strong working knowledge of electrical, mechanical and civil disciplines as related to facility and equipment maintenance.
  • Proficient in directing and leading within a unionized work environment and working collaboratively with cross functioning teams.
  • Must be highly skilled on CMMS (Computer Maintenance Management System).
  • Familiarity with shipyard industry work processes, equipment and practices is considered an asset.
  • Excellent conflict management and organizational skills.
  • Experience developing and managing an annual operating budget.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office, SharePoint and Outlook.
