    About the role

    We are offering a 4 month (September to December) Mine Planning internship based in Labrador City, Newfoundland and Labrador at our Iron Ore Company of Canada (IOC) operations.

    This internship will allow you to have direct exposure to mine engineering work on an active mine site. You will support different activities relating to IOC's mine planning process.

    In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Assisting mine planners with planning horizons, blast event, and infrastructure planning
  • Performing mine reconciliation (spatial, equipment, haulage network)
  • Contributing to continuous improvements initiatives related to unlocking haulage capacity
  • Providing mine design support
  • Assisting in the implementation of our downhill haulage procedure through updates to our traffic management plan, mine design standards, and risk assessment
  • Participating in HSE related programs, including safety talks and field observations
  • What you'll bring

  • At least one year completed* in Mining Engineering or related field
  • Safety mindset
  • Leadership skills, eagerness to learn and ready for the challenge ahead
  • Flexibility and autonomy
  • Good communication skills and ability to work in a team
  • Valid driving license
  • *To be eligible for this internship, you must be returning to school after the work term and have the right to work in Canada.

    We are a leading North American producer and exporter of premium iron ore pellets and high-grade concentrate with average iron grades greater than 66%. With a team of over 2,400 employees, IOC is committed to providing value and continuity for our customers, employees, communities, and shareholders through our unique mine to port approach, taking advantage of our full integration and wholly owned infrastructure to deliver our high-quality concentrate and pellets to our customers across the globe.

    IOC's operations include a mine with five operational pits, a concentrator and a pelletizing plant located near Labrador City in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. We also operate a wholly owned 418 km railway, the Quebec North Shore, and Labrador Railway (QNS&L), that links our Labrador operations to Company-owned port facilities in Sept-Iles. This internship is based in Labrador City.
