Who we are:


Sunshine Centres for Seniors is a non-profit organization providing social, recreational and health promotion day programs for seniors in the Greater Toronto Area.

Our mission is to reduce social isolation, improve the health and well-being of older adults, and empower them to lead meaningful and connected lives in which they are engaged and participating in the community.

We offer programs at nine different sites across downtown Toronto including our unique flagship program, Camp Sunshine on Ward's Island.


The Opportunity:

Responsibilities:


  • Assist in the planning and facilitation of social, recreational, and health promotion programs and special events for seniors
  • Develop, prep, and execute program plans and calendars as needed
  • Contribute ideas, energy, and passion to our cohesive staff team
  • Set up and clean program space and supplies as required
  • Positively represent Sunshine Centres in the community as well as foster our organization's mission and inclusive culture
  • Work closely planning and facilitating activities and events with our talented program team and dedicated volunteers

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or degree in activation, gerontology, recreation and leisure, social services, community services, or similar field of study
  • Experience developing, implementing and facilitating social, recreational, and health promotion activities and special events for seniors
  • Experience working with seniors, including those with a variety of mobility levels and those from diverse cultures and backgrounds
  • In depth knowledge of issues and obstacles faced by seniors and of available community resources
  • Well developed therapeutic recreation practices
  • Strong time management, problem solving, and conflict resolution skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of Zoom, Google Meet and other online meeting platforms.
  • Basic Food Handlers certification and CPR training are an asset
  • Ability to speak additional languages is an asset
  • Knowledge and training in geriatric fitness practices is an asset
