Horizon Childcare and Out-of-School Care is a licensed early learning and school-age program located in Fort McMurray, Alberta.Our centre provides high-quality care and education for children ranging from early childhood through elementary school age, including before-school, after-school, and full-day childcare services.

Role DescriptionEarly Childhood Educator (ECE) — Full-Time, On-Site | Fort McMurray, Alberta
The Early Childhood Educator plays a vital role in supporting the overall development, health, safety, and well-being of children within both the childcare and out-of-school care environments.
The educator is responsible for creating and maintaining a structured, engaging, and nurturing classroom environment that promotes children's social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development.
Key responsibilities include planning and implementing age-appropriate activities, guiding positive behavior, maintaining safe and organized learning environments, and supporting children in developing independence and self-confidence.
This position requires professionalism, strong observation skills, and the ability to respond to children's individual needs while maintaining compliance with Alberta Child Care Licensing requirements and program policies.
Child Development and Classroom Support
Plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities that support children's social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development
Support children's independence through guided participation in daily routines, including meals, transitions, and self-care tasks
Observe children regularly to understand their needs, interests, and developmental progress
Foster positive peer interactions and model respectful, inclusive behavior
Support school-age children with transitions between school and childcare environments
Environment Preparation and Safety
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment in accordance with licensing standards
Ensure materials are accessible, age-appropriate, and support children's learning and exploration
Conduct regular room safety checks and follow health and safety procedures
Follow proper supervision practices to ensure children's safety at all times
Behavior Guidance and Emotional Support
Use positive guidance strategies to support children's emotional regulation and social skills
Support children in resolving conflicts through respectful communication and problem-solving
Provide comfort and reassurance to children as needed
Family and Team Collaboration
Build positive, respectful relationships with families and communicate professionally regarding children's daily experiences and development
Work collaboratively with supervisors and team members to ensure consistent program delivery
Participate in team meetings, training, and professional development opportunities
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions
Documentation and Compliance
Maintain accurate records, including attendance, incident reports, and daily observations as required
Follow all Alberta Child Care Licensing Regulations, program policies, and health and safety procedures
Ensure compliance with ratio requirements and supervision standards
Qualifications and Requirements
Required
Alberta Early Childhood Educator Certification (Level 1, Level 2, or Level 3), or currently enrolled and working toward certification
Strong understanding of child development and age-appropriate practices
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a professional team
Strong organizational and time-management skills
Ability to maintain professionalism, patience, and empathy when working with children
Preferred
Current First Aid and CPR Certification (Level C)
Previous experience working in a licensed childcare or out-of-school care setting
Knowledge of Alberta Child Care Licensing Regulations and the Flight Framework
Experience supporting diverse learning needs and inclusive environments
