  • As the Operations and Maintenance Supervisor, Drinking Water Distribution (DWD), you will be responsible for oversight of operation and maintenance activities performed on the drinking water distribution. This includes emergency response, inspections and maintenance, shutdowns and return to service for water mains and critical transmission mains, troubleshooting issues such as water quality and pressure, hydrant maintenance/repair and other activities required to ensure firefighting capability, as well as system flushing.

Primary duties include:

  • Direct the activities of Foreman and field operations crews during both emergency and scheduled work including planning, scheduling, supervising, and coordinating staff, tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Manage the recruitment, selection and training of new employees. Coach, mentor, develop, and performance manage staff.
  • Provide guidance related to worksite safety, job approach, regulatory compliance and general quality assurance and participate in special projects as directed by the Leader and business needs.
  • Ensure safe work practices are developed and adhered to and investigate near miss and incident reports. Complete field inspections and safety task observation reporting.
  • Review water distribution system performance data to ensure compliance with the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act (EPEA) Waterworks Approval and submit reports to Alberta Environment and Protected Areas (AEPA).
  • Participate in the creation of annual and longterm business plans which support current and future operations that are financially sustainable and in line with Council directives.
  • Establish and implement operational business plan objectives, strategies, and actions.
  • Develop, track, and report on related performance measures.

Qualifications
***- A completed 2 year diploma in a related field combined with at least 10 years of experience in water distribution.

  • Level III Water Distribution Certification from AEPA is required, along with the ability to obtain Level IV certification.
  • Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalency) and the use of a personal vehicle for business use is required.
  • Exceptional communication skills, a strong customer focus, and welldeveloped problem solving and analytical skills are essential.
  • You are a collaborative leader with a strong work ethic, a passion for public service, and you have the ability to lead, motivate, and direct your staff during times of change and uncertainty. Your leadership style is collaborative and inclusive, and you strive to contribute to building a strong culture of safety and respect.
