Purpose:


Reporting to the Director, Intercollegiate and High Performance Sport, the incumbent is responsible for overseeing the University's football operations within established University guidelines, policies and procedures.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

student athlete recruitment, football program athlete management, human resources and financial management, sport development, student athlete development, alumni relations, community development and act as a technical resource.


The incumbent is responsible for the design and implementation of a comprehensive sport development plan that is conducive to positioning U of T at a competitive level to achieve provincial and national prominence.

The plan shall include financial and support services, annual and quadrennial performance targets, budget and revenue/expense tracking framework, team revenue generation targets, and evaluation framework to measure performance against agreed upon targets.


The incumbent will be responsible for managing the finances of the football program, including both the operational budget and a restricted spending plan.

Fundraising is a key component to the success of the football program and the incumbent is responsible for raising a minimum of 10% of the total of the two budgets annually.


The incumbent is responsible for managing the recruitment processes for the intercollegiate football program and the maintenance of the recruiting database.

The head coach's professional presentation of the benefits of attending the University of Toronto and being a member of the Varsity Blues is critical to the success of the program and our ability to attract excellent students and athletes to U of T.


Minimum Qualifications:


EDUCATION:

University degree preferably in kinesiology/physical education or combination of equivalent experience. Fully certified National Coach Certification Program Level 3 Football, Level 4 or 5 preferred, equivalency considered.


EXPERIENCE:


A minimum of 5 years coaching experience in U SPORTS or equivalent level of program and at least three years of head coaching experience.


SKILLS:


Must have full technical knowledge of and demonstrated ability to analyze all aspects of football, including all of the rules and regulations that govern the sport of football.


Must be knowledgeable in the OUA and U SPORTS rules that govern the sport programs around recruiting, athletic scholarship, eligibility compliance rules.


Must have a sensitivity to and understanding of equity, diversity and inclusion and demonstrated skill to act on issues/problems/initiatives involving equity and diversity matters.

Must have, effective problem-solving skills, negotiation, analytical skills required in relation to problem solving, athlete issues, financial issues.

Must have excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; instructional, coaching and motivating skills; influencing and team building skills. Demonstrated skills and abilities in planning and organizing, taking initiative, problem solving and exercising good judgment.

Must have the ability to maintain tact and composure in a highly competitive environment.

Must demonstrate strong leadership and team building skills.

Must be able to deal with crisis management related issues and manage public relations interactions with media, alumni and University officials.

Must have basic computer skills, including experience with, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, video analysis software, recruitment database. As well as good numeracy and record keeping skills.


Teamwork and team building are essential to this role and the ability to collaborate within a collegial environment is paramount.
