We have more doctorally-prepared faculty members than any other school in the west.

As a pioneer in Canadian nursing education, we are continuing to build on something truly special, leading the nation in nursing by enhancing the health and well-being of Albertans, Canadians, and humankind.

We are a tight knit nursing community, valuing mentorship and a culture of excellences across teaching, research and clinical care.

We're here for one big reason:
nurturing students to become the next generation of nursing leaders

Reporting to the Vice-Provost, and College Dean, Health Sciences, the Dean of the Faculty of Nursing is responsible for the leadership and administration of all aspects of the operations of the Faculty, including budget and fund development.

In addition to the role of senior officer of the Faculty, and a member of Deans' Council, the Dean is a senior administrator of the University.

The Dean fosters an environment in which world-leading research and excellence in teaching and engaged scholarship flourish.

As the face of the Faculty, the Dean is champion of curricular initiatives, research, and scholarship, professional training, global outreach, and recruitment of high-quality faculty and student talent.

The Dean cultivates an environment in which students, faculty and staff thrive.

Home to over 44,000 students from 156 countries and 15,000 faculty and staff with over 300,000 alumni worldwide, the University of Alberta is a top-five Canadian university and most recently in the top 100 globally based on the Shanghai academic rankings of world universities.

The University of Alberta is a leading teaching and research institution with a long history of excellence.

Under the leadership of the University's 14th President and Vice Chancellor, Bill Flanagan, the University of Alberta continues to move forward with purpose as one of the world's most respected public universities, at its foundation lie talented people - students, faculty, and staff - who with their creativity, ingenuity and drive, join in advancing human knowledge and pursuing scientific discovery for the benefit of all.

The University seeks to foster an inclusive culture in which people excel through exchange and collaboration, enriched by the diversity of individuals, groups, disciplines, perspectives, approaches, and questions that characterize its community.

While the university community can, and undoubtedly should, be proud of its substantial past achievements, the best way to respect the work of predecessors is to continue to build on it in the future, and the next 10 years of audacious goals for the university are outlined in the University of Alberta's new strategic plan, SHAPE.

The University's new operating model consists of a hybrid of centralized and decentralized services which promotes consistency, avoids duplication, and supports a one-university approach and service culture.

Core to the model is the establishment of the University's three new colleges:

the College of Health Sciences, the College of Natural and Applied Sciences, and the College of Social Sciences and Humanities.

The colleges leverage excellence within all departments and faculties to improve both academic and administrative performance as One University.

The College of Health Sciences brings together the combined strength of all our health sciences faculties and schools, enabling a new level of interdisciplinary health science research and teaching that advances the full spectrum of human health and wellness in individuals and communities around the world.

The college includes 6 faculties (Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation, Medicine and Dentistry, Nursing, Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Public Health, and Rehabilitation Medicine), more than 770 faculty members, and more than 7,200 undergraduate, graduate students and postdoctoral members.
