Compensation:
3-weeks paid vacation, $2400 annual health supplement, and $50/month phone supplement

JOB PURPOSE AND SUMMARY
The Manager, Programs for the Nicholas Sonntag Marine Education Centre:
- Participates with the Executive Director, Curator, and other members of the team to establish the
- Develops educational curriculum, content, and activities, for the various programs.
- Delivers, evaluates, and improves programs.
- Develops relationships with key stakeholders, supports outreach initiatives, and promotes programs,
- Participates as a member of a team, understands their role, is flexible, embraces collaboration, holds
- Upholds the organization's values of being communitycentered, inclusive, accountable, respectful,
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Program Development & Delivery
- In collaboration with the Executive Director, develops, executes, and regularly reports on an annual
- Develops and delivers educational school programs that align with BC K12 school curriculum
- Develops teaching materials to support educational programs.
- Develops and delivers educational camp programs.
- Develops initiatives for adults (e.g., speaker series, coordination of postsecondary courses in
- Develops, implements, and updates risk management documentation and procedures, as needed for
- Develops promotional material, as needed, for programs.
- Develops survey material to inform future decision making.
- Program Coordination and Facilitation
- Responsible for the delivery of programs.
- Communicates and collaborates with schools, teachers, parents, volunteers, and community.
- Schedules and conducts program registration.
- Coordinates programrelated events.
- Collaborates with the Curator and GPM event team members on the use of shared resources
- Promotes programs to schools, organizations, and the general public, etc.
- Collects and summarizes feedback on programs.
- Coordinates, trains, and supervises support staff and volunteers for programs.
- Strategy and Outreach
- In collaboration with the Executive Director and other staff members, establishes longterm strategicplans and develops objectives that are based on the philosophy of the organization.
- In collaboration with the Executive Director and other staff members, develops, implements, andreviews policy related to programs.
- Fosters working relationships with teachers and other stakeholders.
- Represents and speaks on behalf of the NSMEC programs at special events.
- Maintains and updates program content on the NSMEC website and social media platforms.
- Contributes programrelated content to the NSMEC monthly newsletter.
- Professional Development, Research and Education
- Maintains a working knowledge on topics of marine biology, ecology, and conservation, for
- Maintains a working knowledge of BC School curriculum standards for development and delivery of
- Maintains a working knowledge of regulations and standards regarding outdoor education and
- Attends educational conferences, upon approval, to keep uptodate with development in the field.
- Interfaces with colleagues from other organizations in collaborative efforts.
- Organization Support
- Supports the Executive Director by providing insight, feedback, and, as required, content for
- As a member of the NSMEC management team, shares responsibility for oncall duties.
- Supports the Curator with the supervision of staff, animal care, interpretation, collectandrelease
QUALIFICATIONS
- Postsecondary coursework in education, outdoor education, marine science, tourism, risk
- Experience working with children and youth.
- Knowledge of BC K12 school curriculum requirements and core competencies.
- Knowledge of local marine species and how they interact.
- First Aid training.
- A fondness and compassion for animals.
- Grant writing experience, an asset.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including conflict management and negotiating.
- Leadership experience, good coaching skills and the ability to create and maintain a team atmosphere and build consensus.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Effective and articulate public speaker.
- Solid organizational and problemsolving skills.
- A working understanding of the infrastructure of the centre.
- Customeroriented and receptive to feedback.
