AREA MANAGER JOB DESCRIPTION
BASIC FUNCTION
The Area Manager has overall responsibility for the continued long term business success of the corporate restaurants within their area, including accountability for sales, profits and growth.
The Area Manager is responsible for ensuring that the A&W restaurants in their area are operated to industry leading standards, ensuring that the delivery of the guest experience is a competitive strength for A&W.
These are achieved through coaching and developing the operational, guest experience, financial, and human resource skills of the restaurant management team in his/her area.
NATURE AND SCOPE OF POSITION
This position reports to the Senior Director, Operations Excellence.
The Area Manager represents the company to their Area and is responsible for all aspects of their Area.
The Area Manager must have strong knowledge of A&W restaurant operations along with knowledge and skill in coaching, human resource management, restaurant management, and leadership.
Good financial, administrative, communication and problem solving skills, and strong results orientation are also required.Restaurant Managers, who are responsible for all aspects of the operation of their restaurant, report directly to this position.
The Area Manager has the decision making authority in all areas affecting the day-to-day management of his/her restaurants. All decisions must be consistent with the A&W Strategy, Corporate and Operations Policy and Procedure Manuals.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Building and achieving targets for sales and profit in the Area.
a. Coaching restaurant management in effective management of key variable costs of food, labour and other controllables
b. Ensuring strict adherence to cash control policies and procedures
c. Managing variable and fixed restaurant costs, overhead costs and equipment replacement
d. Creating a Business Plan and annual profit plans for the market.
- Consistently delivering an industry leading guest experience as detailed in our strategy and measured by internal and external consumers measures (e.g. Brand Compliance Reports, Delighting Guest Reports, Self Assessments, Guest Connect)
- Developing and maintaining a strong working climate in the area with the management team and coaching them to create a strong working climate in their restaurants.
- Developing a highly performing team through effective processes of recruitment, selection, training, delegation, coaching and performance management
