Job Summary

Pinecrest Queensway Community Health Centre is looking for a student from the Bachelor of Early Learning and Community Development (Honours) program for a field placement opportunity with a focus on providing safe and educational opportunities for families with young children to play, develop and grow together.

We are looking for individuals qualified for the Field Placement III course.

In this 15- week placement the student will work with staff to create and implement community based or childcare programming that promotes movement and learning for children 0 to 6.

Internship can be with either our Early ON Child and Family Centre or with our Headstart Childcare Centre. A vehicle is required for travel within the catchment if placed in Early ON.

Administration

  • Partner with EarlyON, Headstart and other PQCHC programs to support and programs to families and young children.
  • Promote outdoor and risky play by offering resources and age appropriate programming
  • Support existing outreach and new opportunities to promote PQCHC Early ON & Headstart Childcare principles of quality, accessibility and infrastructure in a family context
  • Welcome the diversity of all families, role modelling inclusive and accessible language
  • Promote and encourage children and families in outdoor and virtual play
  • Participate in implementing summer programming
Human Resources

  • Review Centre's operational guidelines, policies and procedures and other legislation required as it relates to the delivery of services and provide recommendations for the policy reviews.
Teamwork and Collaboration

  • Adheres to program specific policies and procedures/guidelines and in the overall planning and development of the program
  • Participates in the evaluation component of relevant program
  • Maintains effective communication of information among internal and external stakeholders
  • Follows established policies of offsite organizations where staff are colocated.
  • Participating actively as a team member at staff meetings, collaborative reflection sessions, in generating and exchanging ideas, in goal setting and in sharing the responsibility for all the children enrolled
  • The ability to work collaboratively with others to coconstruct understandings and teaching strategies;
  • Commitment to building genuine partnerships with others that enable open and constructive conversations about curriculum;
Education

  • Field Placement III course student the Bachelor of Early Learning and Community Development (Honours) program.
Professional Experience

  • Enrolment in 3rd year of the Bachelor of Early Learning and Community Development program
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong knowledge on child development & early learning programming
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Experience working with people of diverse cultures and backgrounds in a community based setting
  • Demonstrates skills in working collaboratively with community partners on early learning and care initiatives
  • Experience and sensitivity working with all families including those in an urban core setting, culturally diverse, GLBTQ, young parents, etc.
Key Competencies

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Demonstrated stress resilience and mental health stamina in the delivery of client services.
  • Welldeveloped interpersonal skills including diplomacy, confidentiality and good judgement as well as the ability to tailor your message to your audience from children through to adults.
