Living Assistance Services, a 22-year-old senior _home_
care agency, is seeking Personal Support Workers.

SUMMARY:


In a nursing or _home_ health agency, the Personal Support Worker (PSW) or Health Care Aide (HCA) would be a paraprofessional member of the health care team who would work directly under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN) or Service Coordinator and performs various services for the _client_.

These duties would include personal care, (activities of daily living).

In a non-medical, custodial agency such as Living Assistance Services, the PSW or HCA may provide assistance in hygiene or personal care in the jurisdiction, which such care, is permitted.


GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists _client_ in all activities of daily living such as personal hygiene assistance, bathing, shower, personal grooming, linen change, laundry and so forth.
  • Prepare or assist in preparing nutritious meals within the patient's diet and assists _client_ with eating, when necessary.
  • Assists clients with transfers, ambulation and exercises.
  • Perform
    _light _housekeeping tasks as required, (to facilitate _client_'s selfcare in the _home_ setting).
  • Assists _client_ in the bathroom or with the use of the bedpan.
  • Answers clients' calls and attends to their requests promptly.
  • Meet the safety needs of the _client_ and uses equipment safely and properly.
  • Complete records accurately and carries out all assignments as requested.
  • May not be assigned to receive or reduce to writing orders from a physician.
  • Notifies Director, Service Coordinator and/or RN of any acute or pertinent changes in a _client_'s condition.
  • May not administer medications or prefill insulin syringes unless regulations allow such with special training and certification.
  • May not perform any sterile procedures or any intravenous procedures.
  • May not perform procedures requiring the knowledge, training, and skill of a Licensed Nurse.
  • Communicate availability to _work_ to the Director or Service Coordinator on a weekly basis or as requested.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding the _client_'s condition and his/her family, with the exception of the Agency and physician.
  • Performs all skills, and procedures competently and within the regulations and licensing laws of the province. Agency policies and other applicable provincial and federal laws.
