Education Program Assistant


POSITION STATUS:
Full Time - Temporary (8 weeks - Canada Summer Job) (Non-Union)


SCHEDULE:
Monday - Friday (35 Hours/week)


REPORTS TO:
Clinical Lead

***: The Bob Rumball Canadian Centre of Excellence for the Deaf (BRCCED) is a multi-purpose, multi-program facility that functions as a community centre for the Deaf and as a non-profit charitable provider of services for the Deaf. The organization exists to provide care and opportunities in a communication-rich environment that enhances the quality of life of those we serve.


Under the direction of the PAH Clinical Lead, the Program Assistant, will be providing administrative and mental health resource support to Deaf and hard of hearing children, youth and their families and children of Deaf adults.


PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Research and prepare materials for psychoeducational group sessions on variety of mental health issues (ie) mindfulness
  • Prepare plainlanguage resources on mental health issues ready to be converted into ASL scripts/videos
  • Research products suitable for play therapy for children and where to buy them
  • Research plain language mental health workbooks and other resources suitable for counselling with Deaf and hard of hearing children and youth
  • Develop a list of local children mental health services across Ontario and their contact information
  • Attend team meetings
  • Assist counsellors with office duties

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor or Master's program in the Social Work or Psychology field
  • American Sign Language skills and understanding of Deaf culture an asset
  • Experience researching and preparing material related to mental health
  • Detail oriented and resourceful self
- starter with demonstrated ability to take initiative

  • Able to work both independently and effectively with other team members
  • French/LSQ an asset
Canada Summer Jobs Requirements

  • Must be within 15 to 30 years of age (as per Canada Summer Jobs requirements)
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada with a valid Social Insurance Number
  • Must be able to commit to full 8 weeks at 35 hours per week
