Job Description:


Position Summary:


  • Providing ongoing supervision and coordination of the day to day activities within the Payroll Department including hiring and training
  • Overseeing the processing of biweekly payroll for 1100 union and nonunion employees within a specified timeline
  • Auditing biweekly payroll for accuracy and investigating exceptions
- preparing wage/benefit accruals and month end working papers for payroll accounts

  • Reconciling all employee/employer deductions to general ledger including benefit accounts
  • Implementing benefit and Collective Agreement/legislative changes (i.e. new tax tables etc)
  • Performing specialized calculations including pension, maternity leave, retroactive pay, manual pay adjustments and garnishments
  • Ensuring policies and procedures are documented and updated as required
  • Recommending and implementing process improvements and efficiencies
  • Processing and reporting Lab funding and Pay for Results reconciliations
  • Effectively communicating with directors, managers and employees regarding payroll information
  • Troubleshooting payroll system issues; maintaining payroll system dictionaries; updating payroll calendar
  • Assisting with yearend audit and external information requests (Statistics Canada survey)
  • Completing and reconciling annual year end T4's, T4A's, NR4, T2200's, WSIB, EHT, HOOPP MDC
  • Other duties as assigned


The physical demands of the role may include but are not limited to prolonged sitting, standing, walking, bending, lifting, pushing and pulling.

This position contributes to ensuring there is a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.


Skills and Qualifications:


  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP), Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) and member in Canadian Payroll Association
  • 5 years' current experience with general accounting
  • 3 years' current experience as supervisor/coordinator of large unionized payroll
  • Experience with Meditech financial system
  • Extremely detail oriented and strong analytic skills
  • Advanced level Excel expertise
  • View to process improvement
  • Team player with good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis is required

Note:
This position maybe combined with Payroll Administrator position.
